I cant seem to get the manual focus to work on my vx2000

YOu are going to need to open up the entire camera to get the far most lens out. the best way to clean it is with rubbing alcohol , if you need assistance in opening the camera straight out then you can download the service manual for your camera, but basically all you need to do is take all the screws out.

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. DO NOT use the 2x barlow if you have one.

Go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object using the eyepiece mentioned above.

Line up the small finder scope with the main tube-- point the scope at the top of a distant telephone pole or church steeple.

Without moving the scope, line up the cross-hairs in the finder scope with the same object. Once this is lined up you can use the small finder scope to locate objects in the sky.

This sounds like dirty capstan and heads, your recordings will suffer like this, when did you last run a cleaning products in your camera?

pleeeeease pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease tell me if you guys fixed your vx2000s cuz im going through the exact same thing! i just bought off a friend and it hasnt worked once since i got it and i think its because of internal batterie problems or getting messed up in the mail but please respondd to this. pleassssse

The VX2000 lens does have a 58mm diameter thread for filters etc. The 72mm refers to the focal range (Zoom) from 6mm to 72mm. The 58mmm lens hood should fit, but I strongly suggest you obtain a SONY OEM lens hood with lens cap. Goto http://www.pro-cam-electronics.com or other professional camcorder sites for these items.

it needs to be sent in to sony i work for canon and have dropped cameras before and they went out of focus it needs to be adjusted by a sony tech they have special equipment to do that, i know on canon its alot of work to adjust one and the memory stick part has to be broke sorry.

tape path alignment is very critical for these cameras. audio dropout is a typical symptom of misalignment. find a good local repair shop; if they know what they are doing, it should be a simple alignment job.
