Go to the bios setup menu to the boot option. When there, scroll down to the Hard Drive Priority area and make sure you have the boot disk listed FIRST.

If you are getting a corrupted hard disk messsage on your PS3 this means that you have some bad data on the hard drive or the drive is bad. The link below will help you address this issue. If you still have trouble then you will need to replace the hard drive.
Try and do a quick format on the hard drive, could of been that somebody switched out the hard drive with one that isn't formatted for the ps3. If it won't let you do a quick format on the hard drive then that means the hard drive that is in the system is bad and would need to be replaced. Once replacing the hard drive then go ahead and quick format it then. It should do it and then you can use the PS3 like you normally would.
either someone swapped drives on you, the drive isnt connected good, or the drive is corrupt. your gunna have to format probly. hope your game saves are saved somewhere!
Disk has no power or has crashed verifiy spinup it should make a spin up noise if not the drive is defective, As I am a sony expert I know this drive is replaceable under warrenty! Hope you bought extended there is not you looking $50 labor on top of $199 for the hard drive.
It sounds like your hard drive may be damaged. The Playstation uses a standard 2.5' hard drive and is user replaceable. Best Buy ,for example, sells these types of drives for $60-120 depending on the size of the drive (Number of GB) you want. Lots of guides online as to how to replace your hard drive, it's only 3 screws.
remove your hard drive, power on teh console, power off the console, install the hard disk again and power again the console.
Hope this will make the system recognize the hard drive again.
