you could try to buy a replacement and fix up it yourself.

go to ebay is the cheapest route, find one with a screen that works and is broken. There are 6 screws in the camera remove, be carefull when pulling the camera apart not to break the plastic.

Well LCDs can be replaced but they are hard to since they are attached to extremely fine wires.

Your options are
1) try to get it fixed at the manufacturer (they will charge you for part + service)
2) buy the part on ebay and try to look for a service manual (quite hard as the plugs for lcd cables are clips that break).But its the cheapest
3) Buy a new camera (variation in cost) (recommended brand canon or nikon)

I also cracked my Canon Powershot A630 lcd screen by dropping the camera. I saw a suggestion to buy a new replacement lens and either have it professionally replaced or try it myself. I ended up doing the replacement myself following instructions I found online. Now it works. Total cost US $63.

I would not recommend trying the replacement yourself, however. There are a few very delicate plastic parts in there which I ended up damaging. Luckily the camera and lcd screen are working great now. But it is probably worth having a professional camera repair shop do the whole job or insert the screen you've purchased. Good luck!

Kodak will not sell the service manual or any replacement parts to non authorized contracted service reps.

Most of the fixes in these cameras is replacement of boards. They do not support component level servicing.

Check to see if there is a battery save mode for the viewfinder. Check the instruction manual for this.

It is also possible that the drive circuit for the LCD display has a fault. It was simply coincidential that it went bad while you were transfering pictures.

I would not suggest trying to replace your LCD screen yourself. There are many authorized service centers to have your camera repaired, but often the repair cost more than the value of the camera when it comes to digital camera's. If you do choose to get it repaired you could have it sent out for service at one of our Best Buy™ stores, or look for an authorized service center in your local area.
