Thanks again. My question now is, does anyone know how to self test a mobo?

  • Anonymous Oct 21, 2009

I've come to the conclusion that my 1st PCI slot is faulty & so is one of my SLi cards. Loogs like I need more than a mobo. As for the repair, I think it's a job for my Son who's an electronic systems engineer. Thanks once again for your tme & information. I think I can put this to bed.

Maybe your card slot on the mobo has frazzled or at least a component/s supplying it. I've had this happen years ago, normally caused by careless handling - always wear an antistatic wrist strap and/or use antistatic mat when working on a motherboard.
Alternatively ensure the contacts are clean and not bent in the slot.
I've also come across dry solder spots on graphic card slots in the past especially on some AGP ones as in the erly days it was quite a forceful job putting one of these cards in. Evenly applied pressure yields the safest installation.

Testimonial: "Thanks,I always use a-stat conn,am careful about handling. I also suspect card slot or supply. I have also tried new card & cards work in other board."

I do believe you may have answered your own question. Sounds like the mobo hey. Blasted nuisance having to shell out for another one

    self test a mobo?
hmmm, if i can be bothered I will test a board if it is an expensive one using a multimeter but it's a painstaking task ensuring all the various components give off a reading within an acceptable range. If I do find a fault it's normally a capacitor thats popped. Often the type that run down the length of card slots or around the CPU slot tend to be the culprits. Then it's just a case of purchasing some new ones and replacing the duds. Need to be pretty experienced at soldering though and there isn't much if any margin for error. This is not something I recommend for most people to do unless you are certain as to what you are doing

How and where do you install nvidia video bridge cable asus 14010-00131200.

Hi
The video bridge cable you are referring to is I believe "Flexible NVIDIA Video SLI Bridge Connector Cable".
This is to link two graphics cards together for enhanced graphic capability, especially gaming. You would need two SLI compatible graphics cards, they should be identical, in the relevant PCIe slots on the motherboard and this cable then links them together.
If you are only using one graphics card or the onboard graphics then this linking cable is redundant. The Youtube video here:
Nvidia How To SLI Tutorial
is pretty good at showing what you need to do and where this cable goes when appropriate.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya

No driver for windows 7. cannot install.

Forceware release 96.85 for Vista should install in Win 7 ok. FX5xxx series cards are no longer supported with driver updates by nVidia, this driver is the last update for it. In general, Vista drivers tend to work ok in 7. URL:

I want to use two Graphics card in single motherboard

Not on this motherboard, and not with two different video cards. Your motherboard does have two PCI-E slots at x1 speed, but only one slot at x16 speed. And when you use SLI you should use two identical video cards for best results.

Can I run two EVGA GeForce 260 GTS cards in crossfire on an ASUS Rampage MOBO?

This is an excellent question, basically "Can you run two Nvidia cards on a cross fire motherboard in a SLI configuration". My first thought was "No" but you should be able to still run a single Nvidia card.

From everything that I have collected the above is correct. Here is a reputable site that you can trust which has a spill on whether you can do this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/246903-33-nvidia-graphics-card-crossfire-motherboard

http://www.directron.com/slireadymb.html heres a list of SLI ready motherboards. dont gotta use this site to buy it just giving you and idea of whats out there for you.

Seems from what i gathered that as long as its an SLI ready motherboard with a open 16x PCI-E compliant slot and of course its gotta fit your tower. Find out the form factor of the tower then also make sure that it fits the correct type of ram that you have and prosesser. Then u should be good to go!
