Maytag Over the oven microwave

I have model # MMV5000ADA ,13.5 amps, watts 1450, vac 120, HZ 60, DHHS code No. H7NF Manfactured in Cleveland, OH in April 1998.

My problem started when I was defrosting some fish. I turned on the light under the hood at the same time and I got a bright flash from the light unit and the microwave stopped working. I believed that both lights had blown. Since then, I have attempted to replace the lights { I get no response}. When I start the microwave, I get a humming sound and the food does get hot, but it is not evenly heated. Also, the vent fan is not working. No circuit breakers were tripped and all other operations on the microwave keyboard continue to function except the light switch. I have unplugged the microwave for several days and then attempted to operate the microwave with the same results. I have defrosted meat before and turned on the lights simultaneously, but I this never happened before.

The turntable is not working, but the vent fan settings [high & low] both work when I turn them on manually.

Is hertz the same as amps?

No, hertz (Hz) is the name for "cycles per second". Normal AC power (in the USA) is 60 hertz or 60 cycles per second. 1 kiloherz (KHz) = 1000 cycles per second. 1 megahertz (MHz) = 1,000,000 cycles per second. Amps is the measurement of current flowing through a device or circuit. a 100 watt light bulb pulls about 0.9 amps. A toaster or microwave oven pulls about 15 amps.

What is the wattage on the sharp microwave model r-2a48?

http://www.sharpusa.com doesn't have your manual. But you can find it yourself on the
back of the unit - the wattage should be listed.

If only the amperage is given (you know the voltage is 120 VAC RMS), so using Ohm's Law, you can calculate wattage:

Watts = 120 Volts X Amps

Model 26961 rated 13 amps. about how many watts would that equal?

the unit has a rating usually on the inside label ior the door somewhere...
you know the voltage allready... 120... multiply the 13 amps x the voltage... and presto 1560...
you can multiply that by .707 and get the RMS value... 1102

so I consider the microwave to be a 1000Watt unit... pretty easy... bu8t you wonder where did I get the numbers... like .707...
It's to compensate the peak to thr RMS... root mean square... lets just call it "Average"

Voltage difference

Actually the voltage is the same, it's the frequency which is different. Running 60 cycle equippment on 50 cycle current is usually no problem. Most noticeble difference is that motor rpm will drop (by about 15%).
