How to add EX 580 flash external

I have a Canon 5D Mark II camera and 580-EX speedlight. How do I use this speedlight remotely from the camera (wireless). Do I need to buy a ST-E2 for this ?

    I'm downloading the latest firmware for the camera but the file size of what I downloaded is larger than what it says online. Is it ok?

This was my first full frame camera. It has new LCD screen is gorgeous. 3" diagonal with 900,000+ pixels. It's possibly the best quality LCD screen ever put on a DSLR. The huge 21 mega-pixel RAW images are excellent. The camera uses an updated variant on Canon's .CR2 RAW format so if you use an older version of Adobe's Lightroom or Photoshop for image processing, you'll need the latest Lightroom 2.2 or Photoshop CS4 to get the proper RAW converter.
The original Canon 5d was the camera of choice for many full-time National Geographic photographers because of its outstanding image quality coupled with a small portable body. For the Mark II, Canon has added weather sealing, a host of dust reduction features, an expanded ISO range, and increased resolution (no small feat), along with a handful of other features. ISO 5000 on the Mark II is comparable to ISO 1600 on the original 5d, in my opinion. This camera is a workhorse for anyone who needs pro camera features coupled with portability.

There are various ways involving an off camera cord (which allows automatic operation), wireless triggers - try eBay or the ST-ET you mentioned

You need the wireless adapter for this, you cannot do this with the camera.

The flash ratio between a master unit mounted on my Canon 5D Mark II and slave doesn't work properly. A couple of shots are fine but then all of sudden the slave unit fires ar full power, then a few week...
If you had the ATG Gold MG8k Flash Kim X3, then your 430EX II or 580EX II can transforms into wireless radio ATG ETTL II.

If you are using the outdated wireless IR ETTL with a 580EX II as a Master. Then you have to set the Slave (ATG/580EX II/430EX II) body facing close to the Master.

Canon 550 ex speedlight - flashes okay. Won't sink with 60d (tried different cameras at dealer - same problem) Camera is okay .

Try these steps:
1. Set camera to manual2. Set shutter to 1/60
3. Set aperture to F5.6
4. ASA/ISO 200
5. 550EX on hotshoe
6. Do not set on slave or master
7. Turn on flash


Display must shows, ETTL.
If that doesn't work, you have to use the flash on manual.
Some of this model will not work fully on ATG Canon EOS-1D C, ATG Canon EOS-1D X IR, Canon EOS-1D X/60D/T4i because this flash is over 20 years old.


Unless you would want it to be modified by me.
But that can be costly when you can get the 580EX II for less than $425.00 USD.

I have been using my Canon 580ex ii with my Canon 5d mark ii. It will not fire at all now. I also tried my old 420 ex speedlite and it will not fire either. But, they both work on my Canon 40d.
You can actually set the external flash not to fire in the menu settings of your camera. Check there or try mounting the flash on your camera, turn both on and reset your camera to factory default settings through your camera menu settings.

Canon Speedlite 580 EX (mark 1) 6 years of continuous use - single flash, multiple flash & continuous burst - with rechargeable batteries. All is well, until recently. Now recharge time has quickly...
The capacitor (neck) is no longer hold a charge or charging circuit is going out on a extended breaks.

Save your money and buy ATG's Godox TT685c.
If you buys two, then you got ATG wireless radio ETTL II flashes.
It would cost over $1,000.00+ USD to buy two Canon 600EX II-RT just to do the same with two ATG's.

5D-Mark II screen flashes with reflecting objects
No. It's simply a menu setting to show you where potentially overexposed highlights in the final image will be. The function can be set to show shadows or highlights.

I don't currently have a manual to hand, but if you can't find how to turn it off in your own manual then report back and I'll have a thorough rummage for one.

is your master flash set on a camera? The EX II has something that makes it have a 1 second delay when using sync mode, unless the master flash is set on the camera.
