Depending on what kind of OS you are running you may be able to reinstall the software that came with your Sansa. The problem of not reading your mp3 may be that it is plugged in to the same USB port over and over again, try different ports. If that doesn't work try downloading Rhapsody, i use it for my mp3 players and it works great.

Here is a link for the Rhapsody player:

Sansa keeps shutting off/ wont read memory disk

The issue you have described with your portable device in most cases can be resolved by formatting your device. Please follow these steps even if you have already attempted them once before.

Please note that this will remove all music from your device.

Formatting the device in Windows Media Player

1. Open Windows Media Player with your MP3 player connected to the computer

2. At the top of windows Media Player select the Sync tab at the top

3. The MP3 player should be recognized on the right hand side and say "Your Player Name"

4. Above the player name is a button that says "Format Storage Media" click this button to erase all the data from the player

5. Continue with the acknowledgement of erasing all data on disk.

Sansa c140 SanDisk

I had the same problem, first on the mp3 player under settings change the USB setting to MSC. Then plug the mp3 player back into the computer. Open the My Computer icon, right click on the SANSA C140 icon and click format. Make sure it's Fat32 and Quick Format is Not selected. Then click format. This will take a few minutes. When it's done your mp3 player will be just like a usb drive; you're files will be read normally.

* if it's a voice recording you're trying to find, look under music and scroll down to Recordings. If it's not there then perform the above format.

Also it only reads mp3s and pictures (gifs, jpgs). Unfortunately the c140 doesn't play videos :(

Try connecting it without the battery. If it shows up, format it. To format My Computer>Device Name>Right Click and select FORMAT. Please add to the question if that didnt work. Best of Luck.

Playing itunes on SanDisk

Depends on the format of the song. If it is .AAC it wont play on the Sansa. You'll need to convert the song to mp3 or wmv format, do a google search for "Mp3 converters" if you need to find a converter
