It sounds like the machine is not picking up the dvd disk anymore. Try tilting it backward by 45 degress or so and see if that help....a pain i know but had same problem with my player after my darling 2 year old daughter damaged it...kids eh? :)

You can try cleaning with a dvd disk cleaner but, generally when this happens the laser assembly needs replaced. You can try a local repair shop but, most people will just buy another DVD system.
I have the same problem! The only way to fix this is to replace the motor that spins the DVD. if you take it apart and spin the DVD the movie will play. The motor is just wore out and has no torque to start the play process. I am still looking for a replacement motor for it and haven't found anyone that carries the motor required. Only Audiovox so far and they want 180 to send in and fix.
We bought this player almost 5 years ago, and have the same problem. When we called audiovox at the time they told us that it was because some of the dvd mnufacturers had changed the format/technology in which they recorded the dvd programs. The biggest problem was with the Disney dvd's. Also, that they did not have any software upgrades at that time to upgrade the player. We used it for a while with the hit and miss movies that it would play, and then finally shelved it and bought a minivan with a preinstalled dvd player. Very rarely use the audiovox now. I am surprised; however, that after 5 years they would still have the same problem and have still not yet upgraded the software in this player. Good luck.
