I have a new kodak esp 3 i was able to use it once and now the computer does not recognize it is connected, i have tried unplugging an dplugging back, i have tried to reinstall still nothing

I'm having this same problem with both black and a color cartridge. I see the small scratches, so looks like they are connecting all right. The new cartridges are Kodak brand, so that's not the problem. I'll try calling them about the print head if that might be the problem.
Install the software for your printer on your laptop. Then connect the usb cable to the printer and the pc will recognize it. Then just print as normal. The pc will not recognize the printer until the software has been installed. If you have lost your driver disk, you can download a free copy from Kodak's website.
This printer, using a USB connection to your Mac computer should not be powered on unitl requested during the process on installing of driver / software ask you plug in and power on.

Next try a new USB cable and plugging the unit into a different port. If you use a print server or USB hub, try connecting directly to the computer. Scanners need bi-directional communication with the computer and thus are likely to have issues even if the printer doesn't.
Can the scanning software on the computer initiate the scan? (That is in the full software package. Alternatively Vista came with Paint and File> Import from Camera or Scanner > New Scan.)
