taking out the battery will most likely result in a "hard reset" completely wiping out the memory from it, there should be a way to just restart the unit. Most models have a button somewhere or its a combination of buttons.

at this point, i would recommend to try to perform factory reset to see if only software problem, not HW. You should be able to reset the device by locating little reset hole and pressing it down for 10s, using so sharp object.
Most of the tablets have a reset swithch. If there is not important data, you may try resetting the device. It may be a good idea to reflash the device with its original software.
The pop-up window come due to any software program. This is not related to the monitor. So you have to check the software which causes this.
Generally pop-up window comes from internet browser. You may change the setting of your internet browser to "Blobk POP-ups". If you tell me what browser you are using i can send you the instruction.
If the pop-up is coming from any other program then there is no general instruction.
One more thing you may try. Do a virus clean. That will solve pop-ups due to virus.
A soft reset basically resets the memory structure in the handheld.
This recovers the device from memory conflicts, corrupted system service
chains (mainly due to attempting hacks), memory leaks, and system
lockups due to the "Fatal Exception" program errors. Removing the battery from the device
while it is still powered on is NOT a soft reset and can actually damage
the device. To perform a Soft Reset:
Remove the stylus from the silo located on the bottom right corner
(if the device is facing up).
Holding the device face up, the Soft Reset hole is located on the
upper right side of the device (the hole is RED).
Insert the tip of the stylus into the Soft Reset hole and the device
will reboot
Well you need to go to settings and reset it to Factory default settings it's still under warranty then contact the vendor for replacement or contact the customer service.....goodluck!
The problem can be bad power supply feeding the backlight inverter circuits due to bad caps, or in the inverter circuits, or worst case will be bad lamps, you need to open it up and tell us what you see inside first, good pictures will help, see example of failed VIEWSONIC due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
