I have a Vizio P42HDTV10A TV that no longer has a picture (only a black screen). We heard a loud 'pop' and then the image disapeared even though the sound still works fine, and we can change stations. Please advise what we should do as the set is no longer under warranty. Thank you.

Chances are something in the power supply board failed and that was the pop you heard, a new board should get ti going again

power supply.Definately will need to be replaced. Im actually looking for one to replace myself.TV repairs charge 1200 to repair.

That problem is the Ysus board, Sometimes people will replace the Zboard at the same time. If you bought it at costco a couple of years ago you are in luck costco will refund your purchase price, costco has changed the return policy and newer tv's are not refunded, but something to look into

Samsung plasma screen went black. Was watching tv, heard a loud pop and the screen will no longer turn on. You can hear the tv turn on but no picture. Power is still working, just a blank screen.
Issue is either with the X or Y sustain board. Look for a cap that has blown or a cracked solid state device on the board. One of them is responsible for the ***** croak you heard.

Loud pop is usually damage to one of the boards that drive the screen--inverters or T-con type boards.

Not likely to be a do it yourself repair.

In my 42" HDTV Plasama TV I heard a loud pop.
You will find that the power supply has failed and is no longer supplying the VS voltage that the screen requires to produce a picture.
Call a specialised engineer that is authorised to work on your make ot TV.

Heard loud pop and screen went black audio stayed on on my 42'' plasma p42hdtv10a.I have the back off of it waiting to start troubleshooting
Check your Vs and Va Supply voltages first. Then check the fuses on the the Y sustain and the Z sustain panels. Let me know what you have after that.

54" Sony Wega made a loud popping sound and now has Black lines
When I got my new LCD big screen, it had a black line across the entire width. It looked like the screen was pinched.

They claim that it can be repaired but that repair costs as much as a new tv.

My tv was replaced. Hopefully your warranty is still in place to get the unit replaced.

TV was on with no picture problem. Left the room and when I returned the picture was very dim. Turned system off and turned back on. Picture didn't change, but heard a loud pop from the back of the TV.
