Formatting New Disc Problems

Having not used my Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD for a period of time i tried to record a film. I inserted a new disc and the system offered the format procedure as expected. Having selected OK the system started to format the disc. At approximately 50% the system dropped out of format process and displayed DISC ERROR. I tried numerous new discs including different brands and everytime i had the same problem. I then tried a couple of original DVDs including a new one and although they played the viewing was very broken and i could not get the menu options to work.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I have the same problem to edit or reformat the disc and it shows disc error. If I delete title by title then the disc can be recorded, but during playback it skips at a certain point. Please help to solve this problem. Thanks.

Cannot format an empty dvd recordable disc

Only DVD-RW discs can be formatted. If it is a DVD-R and you have already tried recording on it, the disc will be unusable. If the disk is not formatting, it might be defective. Try using another disk in the drive to make sure it isn't your DVD drive itseld that is broken.

Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD

What format are you recording in?If the recorder is set for DVD +R, and your playback machine won't read the disc, you may need to record on a DVD-R, or a DVD +-R. Or vice-versa. Some DVDRW discs will record on one machine and won't play on another. The media are incompatible. Another problem - if you are copying a copy-protected disc, it might not play back either. Are you sure you are finalizing the disc? This process takes 4-5 minutes and requires two or three responses sometime.

Cyberhome 1600

You might try taking the cover off and then VERY GENTLY use a q-tip swab to brush off the laser lens. Sometimes a little dust or dirt is enough to keep it from detecting the disc.

Disc playing on another computer help

It sounds like you need a firmware update but it may be too late now that Cyberhome is out of business. I suggest you buy a better unit but if you have some unfinalized or unreadable discs you want to try and recover I have instructions on how to do that on a PC that may be of help. www.drx9000repair.netfirms.com/
