I updated my driver for my hp1220C on XP after a crash that stopped the valuable print preview function working ...(printer worked but was print immediate - -and no tool box options etc) . i can't believe i found how to fix the driver ... you need to right click the exe file [before running it] dj1074en.exe or whatever ... and 'properties' - 'compatibility' click near 'compatibility mode' 'windows 2000' - then run it ... and voila -- i now have the print preview and all the lovely functions back again!!!! crazy!! took me 3 hours to find this ... it may well work with vista -- to select the windows 2000 option .. don't know that one ... at least until HP update all corectly and clearly

All of the HP drivers for the HP 1220C are available here: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=19142 . For Windows 8 and higher, the driver should be available through Windows Update. Make sure that the computer is connected to the internet and connect a USB cable between the computer and the printer. The printer should be on. If you do not see any activity, try accessing Windows Update and checking for updates manually.
Note: you do need allow Windows to automatically download driver software. See http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01796879 for some of the items to check. Additional steps are here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/I-need-a-printer-driver-for-my-Deskjet-1220C-to-use-on/td-p/5485192 .
I hope this helps. Some of the Windows Update steps can be slow.
I have the same Printer and it works great in Windows XP Pro, so maybe you need to check their website for updated printer drivers...? My Printer is the HP Deskjet 1120C Professional Series Printer, that's the full name so I guess its the same printer...can print up to 13x19 inches....I've used the heck out of mine and it just now developed a problem where it won't pull the paper in from the front, but believe it or not I can load one sheet at a time from the back....
