At manual power on, the standby light comes on as usual. Then when the power button on the remote is pressed and tv tries to switch on, but after about 5 seconds goes to red light which flashes twice, then pauses, then continues to flash twice and so on. Other than pay the repair guy $198 aud just to look at the tv, when it should be warranty anyway, is there any other solution?

Mine (purchased late December) started behaving similarly today, except it flashes 7 times between pauses, not 2. I can't even turn it on either manually or using the remote.
It's Saturday night and I now don't have a TV. My brand new 42" Panasonic all of a sudden stopped working. The power light goes on, then off and then flashes 7 times and that's it!!! I bought it after Christmas (2007). You can't tell me a brand new Plasma only lasts one month!!! Has anybody had the problem fixed??? Since it is the weekend I cannot get a hold of anyone at Panasonic.
My Panasonic Plasma just did the exact same thing after only 2.5 yrs of light use. (5 hrs a day maybe) Contacted Panasonic and they reffered me to a local repair guy. Possibly a bad board or bad fans was the panasonic guys theory, but I dont want to spend a ton fixing it. This should not be an issue after only 2 and a half yrs. If I buy another Plasma, it probably wont be a panasonic.
Same problem, same TV. Pops and turns off and red light blinks. Cannot turn on with out unplugging and resetting the unit. It will do the same thing in 1 hour.

Same problem with my Panasonic plasmatvviera42inch. Want turn on and the power light blinks 7 times. I called Panasonic. The local repair came out in two days and replaced a board. It is fixed and no charge. He said it is a common problem with these models.
turned on my panasonic th42pz77u. tries to fire up and then shurt down. will not come on red light flashes 7 times. unit is only 5 mouths old. will find out tomorrow when i call dealer what the problem is. interupting power doesn't do anything.
i have a th-24pz700b plazma tv and when you turn it on the fans start up for a second or 2 and then it just shuts down and the standby light starts to flash in intervals of 7 flashes at a time, its only just started this..... could anyone help?
We've got the same problem. Tried to switch the tv (Panasonic, TH-42PZ70B) on, but all we got was momentary bit of sound coming on for a bout 1-2 seconds and then the stand by button would flash 7 times with the tv not switching on at all.
