If the power indicator is flashing red and green alternately.
The interior of the system has become hot. Check whether the system is being used in a hot location or whether the vents are blocked. If you use the system in this condition it will cause it to stop working. Turn the system off and leave it off until it cools down. After the ps3 cools down, turn it on again.
yellow light? your ps3 if wrecked, take it to the flea market they will fix for $40-$50, if its 2 or more years old i would suggest buying a new one because he will have more problems with old age
Verify the connections between the TV and the PS3. I would also try another cable if you have one on hand.
Turn the PS3 off so the red light is showing then press and hold the power button on the PS3 until you hear the second beep that will reset the video setting on the PS3, that may or may not help.
Try the PS3 on another TV this will verify if it is the PS3 that has the problem or the TV.
If you have a "slim" ps3, it does not beep 3 times. Try this. First, with the system off, plug in your old red, white, yellow cables into the tv. (make sure your tv is on the correct setting). Now, just turn on the ps3 the regular way. Did you hear the sounds it normally makes when booting up (the ps3 boot music?). If so, thats good. If you did not, check again that the tv is on the right channel, and if possible, try another set of red, white, yellow cables.
If you heard sound, but do not get a picture, turn the ps3 back off. After the red light comes on, hold your finger down on the power button for about 5 seconds. If you have a fat ps3, it will beep 3 times after a few seconds to get back to regular tv mode. If you have a slim ps3, it will beep once, then 1 more time a few seconds later. It should reset and turn back on. If your tv is on the right channel and the cables work, then you should now see a picture and you know your audio/video is working. You can now try your HDMI cable and it should prompt you to use the HDMI at this point.
Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later. Release the power button when you hear this second beep
Wait for the PS3 to reset its display.
This will now choose the best setting for your TV and everything should be ok.
If you still get problems, go back to where you purchased it from or contact Sony, as it is under a year old it is still within warranty laws etc
Do you have any other HD devices to cross-check with? If it's occuring with all HD devices then it could be the TV itself having trouble. It could also be the HDMI cable; do you have an extras you can try?
Have you attempted to reconfigure the PS3's video settings? Try a number of different combinations and see if any of them result in a cleaner screen. Hopefully it is the connections and neither the PS3 or the TV. Also, find your TV's make and model and attempt a search to see if any one else is having issues with that particular TV.
When tv and ps3 backswitch turned on hold down the front power button
when off until the ps3 has done a double beep after the intitial beep
and wait for a max of 1 min and initial set up screen should appear
this may be due to the fact that your ps3 will be set up to hd. go into video settings when you switch it on and this should solve the problem. i had similar problems and bought a hdtv until someone pointed this out to me. however once you have experienced ps3 in hd you will not go back!!! hope this helps
when on standby hold the power button for 4 seconds, it runs the
optimal settings screen, i dont think this is your prob but it might
help. What cable was used at your neighbours? was it an hdmi cable? did
you knock your ps3 when moving it?
when you switch the ps3 on if you hold down the power button for more than 4 seconds it runs the display setup. and sets the ps3 to run in the best possible option
