Volume is stuck on max. The pot does not seem to be the issue. I do not have a remote. Tried to connect other remotes but unable to find a code that will work. Machine is new to me. Bought it for...

Do you have the manual and have you thumbed through it?

It always puzzles me when someone fixates on the remote when a unit has front-panel controls. You say "The pot does not seem to be the issue." Does that mean it is ineffective or is it faultless in your estimation?

The HUGE volume knob (#16 on page 8) controls volume (in the main zone), too.

If your complaint involves speakers on Zone 2, the up/down arrows at #22 on page 8 apply.

Zone 2 stopped working. When pressing the volume button for Zone 2 , message appears : "Pwrd Z2 not Act." Do you know how to correct?

Go into Hardware Setup, find the setting for Powered Zone 2 and ACTIVATE IT. You will lose the Surround Back speaker function when you do this. Zone 2 and Surr Back are mutually exclusive.

Onkyo TX-SR500 Dolby Digital problem

I just read over the problem you were having with your Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver. It sound like the unit needs to be setup for all five channels.Sence your symptom says the diplay shows Dolby D3/2.1. According to the owners manual with the remote control look for speaker setup whin the button is pressed the current speaker setup will be shown in the display. Press the preset/adjustment<> to change the current setting to five speakers. the listening mode will automatically change according to the number of channels you selected. Hope this helps. Radiotech
