Check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder. It may be low. You may need to bled the system or replace the slave cylinder. If both of these are on, you may have a clutch problem.

SOURCE: where is the transmission dipstick for a 1997

its a 5 speed, there is not dipstick. there is a fill plug on the side of the tranny you remove to check fluid level, level should be just below the opening.

I have a 1987 chevy Cheyenne 1 ton dually w/standard transmission clutch quit working not sure if it be slave cylinder or something else?

Does the pedal go to the floor?? If so it is the master and the slave, they are replace as one unit of repair. If the pedal is very stiff but doesn't go to the floor you have a failed clutch.

Need a clutch pedal diagram for a 1999 s10 2.2 4cyl manual trans

Sorry no diagram. But here is how it works. In the start position(Power) the wire goes to the start fuse, from the fuse it goes to the clutch pedal switch. Push the pedal and it goes to the starter relay. On the other end is ground. If it is good it pulls the relay closed. On the closed end is battery power to the starter.

I'm having problems with a 91 Chevy Cheyenne with manual transmition not starting

Check the clutch start switch above the clutch pedal , look up under dash . Yellow wire going in, purple coming out ! Yellow should have battery voltage with key in start position. The purple should have battery voltage with the key in the start position with the clutch pedal pressed down .

Can a 94 chevy cheyenne transmission interchange with a 97 chevy silverado tranmission

Will it physically fit? yes. Will it be a direct replacement any everything hook right up and plug right in? If we are talking about an automatic then no. 1994's wiring was completely different than the 1997. Can it be made to work? possible, but I believe it would be more trouble trying to make it work than if the correct transmission were located and installed. If it is a cost issue where he has a good trans out of a 1994 he might see if a salvage yard will do some partial trading for the correct trans.

How to bleed a clutch on a 1997 chevy 1500

You may have a bad clutch master or a bad slave cyl. To bleed the system you need to find the bleeder screw under the truck where the slave cyl enters the bell housing. Make sure the master is full of fluid. Note-some reservoirs will have an rubber cup insert inside which will make it look full . If so take it out.
Open the bleeder at the slave cyl and watch as the fluid comes out to see if there is any air. After a while, close the bleeder and pump the clutch pedal to see if it is starting to work. If not, repeat opening the bleeder again etc. If you get a little pedal, then hold the pedal to the floor and have someone open the bleeder. Close the bleeder and repeat until you get a good pedal. If you have no success you may have a bad master that is not producing pressure.

CLUTCH

More than like you mean the clutch pedal just goes to the floor. If this is the case the hydraulic clutch has a failed part, that would likely be the Master cylinder on the firewall under the hood or the slave cylinder down on the transmission.

No pressure clutch pedal goes straight to the floor 1988 holden r

If hydraulic actuated mechanism, loss of fluid, defective master cylinder or slave cylinder at the clutch. Missing pin or other part between slave cylinder and clutch arm. Loose or broken slave cylinder mounting. Missing pin or broken part between pedal and master cylinder. If mechanical linkage, look for broken components or missing pins at moving joints. If you tried to shift into gear with engine running, you may have damaged the transmission gears.
