Burner lost comm with the remote code c4 76

Check thermostat connections.......check thermostat leads to the unit.......To check remove thermostat wires(leads) from unit and see if unit comes on and works, unit should work and heat to 120 degrees factory set. If unit does not fire off then problem is the pcb(printed circuit board) and will need to be replaced . When new board arrives it will need to be programed...... hope this helps....

We have enjoyed a Rheem Thermostat and a Paloma Eco Sense tankless gas water heater #RTG-74XN-2 for 2 and 1/2 years, but now there are error codes flashing and resetting the thermostat doesn't hold. ...

Before calling service technician, open following links for Rheem troubleshooting resources, including generic error codes and contact information for Rheem and recent manuals:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html
http://www.fixya.com/tags/rtg_74pvn

Error codes are start place for troubleshoot, and multiple error codes can indicate bad PC board.
Same error code on one machine can be different cause and solution than another machine.

Error 76 is usually communication problem with remote control.
Disconnect wires from machine, and clean terminals is a start point.
Wire between machine and remote might be bad, or remote control is bad, or PC board or wiring connections are bad.

The problem might be solved by having technician catch the machine up on yearly maintenance.

Manual for same-similar product shows maintenance and troubleshooting and a few error codes, but not 76:
For the most part, the manual recommends calling service technician instead of offering DIY details.

FLASHING C4 76

Had a Ploma unit - same as Rheem. Not sure what C4 is...but code 76 is lost comm between the remote control and the burner control module. Unplug unit = take front cover off...their should be a square circuit card assemble in front of you. Top blow capacitors are typically used in todays electronics, and they have an obvious curve if the capacitor is blown. If the caps appear swolen on the top they are blown. STOP! If your unit is less than 5 years old..contact manufacturer for defective power supply. This particular problem is known to the MF...If you have a Poloma/Rheem they send you step by step instructions on how to replace this board yourself...if you're slightly technical you can do this repair yourself.

Rheem water heater turns off by its self

Flashing code 76 is lost communication between the remote and the burner control assembly CCA (circuit card assembly). The CCA is still under warranty if purchased within the last 3 yrs. Contact Rheem customer service and have your Mod. and S/N available....explain to the agent you are recieving - flashing code 76...they'll walk you through the process.
