You need to resolder the flyback transformer and replace fuse FL221 off pin 11 of the flyback transformer. The convergence power supply is not coming on so system control thinks a convergence circuit is not installed.

  • Anonymous Oct 17, 2009

Remove the back cover. When looking from the rear of unit the printed circuit board lying flat on the left is the large signal or power supply/sweep board. The flyback transformer is at the left rear corner. A thick red high voltage wire and a thinner black focus wire come out of the top of it. You need to unclip wiring and maybe remove wiring holders. Pull PCB holder back and lift it out of its mounting rails to give clearance. disconnect either end of two white ribbon cables connecting the 2 flat boards. Be careful with these. It's easy to tear the conductors loose when you plug them back in. If that happens they must be replaced. Push up on the sweep board while releasing the plastic clips holding it to the carrier. 2 of the clips are inboard front and rear. raise the outer edge of the board to gain access to the bottom of it. FL221 is 1 of 3 red rectangular near the right rear corner (looking from the back) of the flyback transformer. FL221 is the middle one. Also check electrolytic capacitors on this board for swelling on their top and possible venting of electrolyte. (Another common fault of these chassis that will keep it from starting up.)

The colors are messed up.

convergence, if that item is no longer to be seen in the menu a protect part near the HV transformer is gone, set prone to a lot of bad connections also in that same area---if convergence no longer in menu they sell a 3 part kit for that on the internet, plus you would want to solder all the connections around the area as well.

"Perfect Focus" problem on Samsung HCN4727W

You have a bad sensor, a bad digital convergence board, or the new board is not working correctly. I would start by swaping out the convergence board or exchange it for another one. Good Luck

I have a Philips 51PW9303 Rear Projection TV that had blue shadows around the sides of the screen and now has a green and red bowed line at bottom. Does I need a convergence board to solve this?

If the following doesn't work the tubes could be at the end of life:
Adjusting convergence:
Note: For best results, the Projection TV needs to be turned on for 15 minutes or longer before adjusting the picture tubes (convergence).

To adjust the convergence of the picture tubes:
  1. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button on the remote.
  2. Press CURSOR RIGHT to enter the PICTURE menu.
  3. Use CURSOR DOWN and RIGHT to select and enter MANUAL CONVERGE.
  4. Press CURSOR RIGHT to select CONVERGE RED or press CURSOR RIGHT and DOWN to select CONVERGE BLUE.
  5. A crosshair will be shown on the screen. If there is any red or blue fringe around the crosshair, use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, DOWN to try and merge the fringe colors with the crosshair.
  6. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button to return to MANUAL CONVERGE menu.
  7. Press the 'EXIT' button to exit the menu.
If you are satisfied with the convergence you may stop now. Otherwise, you can continue and adjust the convergence more using mult ipoint convergence.
To Adjust multipoint convergence:
  1. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button on the remote.
  2. Use CURSOR RIGHT to enter the PICTURE menu.
  3. Use CURSOR DOWN and RIGHT on the cursor ring to select and enter MANUAL CONVERGE.
  4. Press CURSOR RIGHT and DOWN on the cursor ring to select MULTIPOINT RED or MULTIPOINT BLUE.
  5. A grid of crosshairs will appear on the screen. If there is any red or blue fringe around any of them, press CURSOR RIGHT to enter NAVIGATE mode.
  6. Use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, and DOWN to move to a crosshair that has a color outline.
  7. Press the 'EXIT' button to enter ADJUST mode.
  8. Use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, and DOWN to merge the color with the crosshair.
  9. Press the 'STATUS/EXIT' button to return to NAVIGATE mode. Repeat as necessary.
  10. Press the 'MENU' button to return to the MANUAL CONVERGE menu.
  11. Press CURSOR DOWN until SAVE MULTIPOINT is selected.
  12. Press CURSOR RIGHT to save the multipoint settings.
  13. Press the 'EXIT' button to exit the menu.

Blue, green, and red colors all off

I would suggest having a repair person come out to your place to fix this problem. I believe the convergence IC are going or have gone bad. I would estimate a $300 - $400 dollar repair bill.

Convergence problem w/ red horizontal only-WS-65807

Do not try to adjust anything yet!! Adjustments do not get out of alighnment all of a suddenly. The convergence adjustments are there to do minor aging alighnments. I would first check for bad solder connections on the convergence IC's first.

No way to converge colors

The convergence board could have recived damage when it was shipped, or there could be a bad connection or plug came loose while transporting, or the convergence IC's may need to be replaced. All these things ,unless your a trained tech with soldering experience, will need to be checked out. Good Luck

Rca 52' projection convergence problem

Its a good possibility that your convergence problem could for now be cold solder connections on the driver ICs on the convergence board. The longer you use it the more of a problem its going to surge those ICs till they go bad and maybe cause other componet falure as well. If your not a technician i would have this set serviced asap before it becomes a major repair Good Luck
