One of my neighbors gave me their broken JVC tv. When I turned it on, I got no picture or audio. There was a clicking noise and the red standby light on the front was flashing. I opened up the tv and found the clicking noise to be coming from a relay directly next to a transformer (not the HV transformer). When I was originally testing this, there was a terrible burning smell coming from the tv (not sure where exactly) and there was some small amount of smoke. Is this problem only from a broken transformer, or is there a bigger problem here? Thanks tv does not work timer light flashes after clicking noise inside tv stops
Sounds pretty bad to me, I had a computer monitor that did a similar thing when plugged in after blowing, it's not a good thing. I didn't even bother to mess with it. You may have to replace the whole power board or at least have a whole handful of pieces to re-solder. It most likely isn't worth it unless your other tv's are under 30" and you don't have a lot of money ;)

When I turn on the t v it comes on with a great picture and sound. But there is a clicking sound and if iI look into it from the left side I can see some small arking near the very tip of the picture tube. As it clicks black lines flicker on the screen. Please let me know how bad it is. Thank you.
