I had this same problem on my Mitsubishi rear projection WD52527 model television. The optic engine was changed twice, and the blotches were still there. It turned out that it was the mirror inside the television that was causing the purple blotches. It was filthy and once the repairman took it out and cleaned it the discolorations were gone. Hope this helps

Panasonic DLP TV has huge yellow blotch covering most of the screen

SET uses a optical light engine--lamp which is quite hot shines into the engine---blue is first to get the light and heat and is usually first area in the lens and baffles to get damaged(loss of blue leaves red and green which equal a yellow screen.

You have a damaged light engine.

Hitachi 42V710, three years old, has purple "blotch" in one place about 8 x 4 and yellow tinge in a big circle in the middle.

you have what sounds like a very simple fault .the positor has failed a cheap three leg device in the power supply .it keeps magnetic feilds from effecting the crt/screen unless your confident with a soldering iron i would get an engineer as it is a very inexpensive component...if you need any more help drop me a line farr64[colin]

My kid ran a magnet across the screen now there's a purple blotch along the top of the screen.

The TV needs to be degaussed.

There is an automatic degausser built in but it may NOT be strong enough.

Try this: Turn off the TV and let cool for 10 minutes. Then turn on for one minute.

Repeat the previous sequence until screen is clear of blotches.

The cooling period re-arms the degausing circuit.

If this doesn't fix it adequately, you need to find a TV repairman that has a degausing coil... these are getting a bit rare now. It would take him ten minutes with the coil to fix it.

55 inch hitachi lcd projection tv has yellow and purple blur near the center of the screen

This, sadly is getting to be a very common problem with all Projection LCD TV's
Colored Blotches on an LCD Projection TV are usually caused by defects or marks on filters or lenses on one of the LCD panels themselves which are all located in the light engine (or optical block) First confirm that the lamp or main lens is not discolored by removing the lamp (unplug set and let cool before removing!) and visually inspecting the lamp itself and the lens that it shines onto. The light engine is an expensive part ($600-$1200) to replace and requires major disassembly. Have a tech confirm-Get an estimate -Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Yellow and purple blotchs on screen

This is because the coolant in the projectors is bad. You can have a service man replace the coolant and should have a good picture again. Don't try this your self it is real messy and the coolant is corrosive so if you get it on one of the boards it will eat it up.

Purple blotches

Ok, so I'm about to flip a lid with my TV. I am showing purple quater sized blotches all over my screen. I bought it for a discounted price because of this issue, in hopes i could fix it. I took the back panel off the TV. ( about a 6in * 6 in plate) removed the light bulb and cleaned the bulb and lens, where the light bulb faced. I used a dust cleaner and special cloth. NOTHING! I took the entire front screen off cleaned it and then cleaned the mirror and second lens.... NOTHING! Then i heard that dusk sometimes gathers behind the lens and that should be cleaned. Try this, Its 4 screws, just be careful and remember the way you took it out, because it has to be replaced the same way.
