Wireless-G USB 2.0 adaptor stops midway through installation
Brand-new computer with Vista. Installing the adaptor by the instruction booklet. Evrything goes fine until prompted to insert the adaptor. We do this, and click next.
The instructions say that "Windows will discoever the adaptor and continue the software installation process" and that we should "follow the Windows prompts to complete the software installation"
After hitting NEXT, the SmartWizard window closes, and nothing happens.
We wait, and, wait, and wait. We tried uninstalling and re-doing the installation many times.

Onboard adaptor hardware failure? Or is it missing Drivers?
Wireless adaptor - did you install drivers for adaptor? Did you check that WiFi on the adaptor is switched on?
On a side note: I've found that USB 2.0 Wireless N adaptors are the best for connectivity, as they have their drivers on the adaptor, are fully plug and play (Vista/7/8 and even some models on XP). I recommend Transcend (brand name).
I found it! Sony UWA-NA1 USB Wireless Adaptor is a OEM products of Quanta Microsystems Inc, it's using the same USB adaptor as Ralink RT73 USB Wireless LAN card with RT2571WF chipset. I did it work ok in window 7 64-bit. But in the link below, its support XP, Vista as well. 1. Download Drivers for XP/Vista/Win7 here: http://www.station-drivers.com/page/ralink.htmChoose Ralink RT257x/RT2671/RT520x (RT73 series USB Wireless LAN) 2. After download it, run it to install the Ralink Wireless App, check for the driver only. When it done, find the folder it has installed. 3. Open device manager in window managerment, choose the Wireless USB (have no driver with yellow !), right-click, update driver software.. 3.a Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". Find the "Network adaptor" in the category devices list, click on it, OK. 3.b In a new window name "Select Network Adapter", choose "Have Disk..." then browse the path of folder Ralink has installed. Your will see a file "netr7364.inf" (may be in XP-32bit or Win7 32bit you will a difference *.inf file). Click on it, click open, then OK. 3.c In the left box, find Ralink Technology Corp. click on it, the find RT73 USB Wireless LAN card, then click NEXT, a "Update Driver Warning" pop-up will appears, just click yes. Then windows will install the driver for Sony UWA-NA1 as "RT73 USB Wireless Card". Good luck! (You may try another devices in the list at your own at risk)P/s: Sorry for my bad english! English is not my primary language.
One question, is... do you need to enter a KEY or is this an open network?
I have found that with a new computer, you need to do the following to connect.
If this is an open network, then leave your router running, and just do a cold boot with your computer.
IE: Shut down, count to 10, and then re-start.
You may also need to connect (by network cable) to your router and make sure the wireless is turned on.
Most new rountes start with the wireless disabled.
A wireless USB adapter is a simple device that connects
to an open USB port on your computer or laptop, allowing you to connect
wirelessly to a network that is within range. They come with different
connection speeds, ranges and security protection allowing you to
connect to the Internet and use email servers, without complicated
setups. Installing USB adapters to a computer is a simple task that
anyone can perform. With just a few steps, you can access wireless network
where there is one.
jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){
jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); });
});
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
Step 1
Research around before purchasing a wireless USB adapter.
There are many different networking companies such as Belkin, Netgear
and Linksys (see links in Resources). Compare prices and features such
as speed in megabytes per second (mbps). Look for wireless USB adapters
with a compliance of IEEE 802.11b or IEEE 802.11g. These options give
you increased security on your network.
Step 2
Plug your purchased USB into a USB port on your computer.
Depending on the chosen model, you may have an installation CD. Place
your installation CD into the CD-ROM on your computer, and follow the
setup instructions to install the wireless USB drivers. Some adapters
will install automatically.
Step 3
Locate the wireless icon on the lower right of your computer
screen. If there is an "X" marked on it, use the manual that comes with
your purchased wireless USB adapter to configure it properly. The
wireless icon usually lights up when a wireless connection point is
detected.
The Belkin site has very specific instructions for installing this adapter in a pc with Vista. These instructions are at: http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D9050&aid=6112&scid=0 I would first unistall any Belkin Software that has already been installed, shut down the system completely and then restart. After you have fully restarted the system then follow the Belkin Site instructions EXACTLY. Any variation is apt to mean an unsuccessful install. Good Luck and have patience.
OK!! I figured it out!! Ok you need to go to the Dlink web site, cursor over to the tech support tab, on the drop down select DOWNLOADS, enter your Dlink wireless adaptor version(you'll need the box for these steps), ok now in the new window click downloads, choose and download the 130 one not the beta version, have a flash usb ready and save all downloaded files to ur usb flash, next insert your usb flash on ur laptop, open my computer select ur removable drive and double click the dlink software, after you do this it should bypass that prompt screen and you'll be able to continue your setup for your Dlink wireless adaptor.........hope it works for you cause it worked for me.....
