Samsung dlp hdtv turns itself off

The tv will be on for about an hour then shuts itself off. The lamp and standby/tem light blink when this happens (not the time lite). You can generally turn the tv back on and then it will turn itself off again after only a couple of minutes. Then if you leave it sit for a while you can turn it on and it will stay on. The fan is working and the bulb cover is secure. There is plenty of space between the tv and the wall.

This is Sharon with same problem nearly a yr after you posted the above. I'd like to know what they said if you don't mind sharing. thks Today is Dec. 14, 08 and for the past two days my Samsung HD TV Progressive Screen has been turning off just a few minutes after I turn it on. There is sound but no picture. It turns itself off and on for a few minutes, then after about 4 tries of this it gives up and shuts off completely. Any thoughts would be helpful and welcome!

T.V. was working just fine last night. This morning we woke up and the t.v. turns off by itself after a minute. When you try and go into settings it IMMEDIATELY turns off so you can't see what you're doing. I got to timer but the function was off. Any ideas as to what it might be?

  • Anonymous Jan 06, 2009

Same problem. TV was working just fine until this morning, when it shut itself down after about an hour. I turned it back on and all was well for about two minutes, then it shut itself down. Same thing again tonight.

Same thing here. Have a 50" DLP that worked fine for the first 1.5 years, then it did the same shut off thing. Not consistant. Sometimes it won't do it for weeks-months. Sometimes it will shut off after a few hours. Sometimes in a few minutes. Very annoying! Looking foe a fix!

My DLP HL-5663W 56" TV turns itself off after approx. an hour sometimes sooner. It will do this sometimes...repeatedly. Usually, after restarting the set, it will run properly. But, this problem is occuring more frequently. The set appears to be cool and sufficiently far from the wall. What gives? How do I solve this problem?

We had this exact problem with our Samsung DLP about a year ago (it was 2 years old at the time). We purchased a small desk fan for $6 and placed in behind the TV. We started running the fan when watching and it fixed the problem of the TV clicking off. It was inteded to be a short-term fix, but since it's worked so well we still haven't gotten the TV fixed.

Samsung dlp hdtv turns itself off

I worked on one of these for a few weeks. if you dont mind a little inconvenience you can remove the back lower cover and defeat the bulb door switch and it will run. the last one i had like this we could not find the problem even with samsung tech support. changed many parts in the mean time. its heat related but the lamp heat sensor in our case was not the problem.

Sony kds-r50xbr1 turns itself off and then green light blinks 52

I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working.  The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode.  Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it.  Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced.  If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp.  The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual.  I hope this helps you.

Samsung DLP HL-P5063W

you have the same problem I have. The problem is fixed by changing the new light bulb. The problem appears again after 1500 hours of use. You can keep buying new light bulbs or avoid it by not buying another Samsung TV.
