I CANT GET MY IBM THINKPAD TO UNLOCK - IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook

  • JOAT May 11, 2010

Cut the cable with a bolt cutter. (Sorry, couldn't resist); the question is too vague. Was this hibernating, is it on cold startup? What? What does the screen look like??

It depends on what you want to unlock:

for the BIOS, just remove the battery for 24hours then the BIOS will reset / else have the BIOS battery removed for at least 1 hour.

My ibm thinkpad r40e has a password and i cant remember it. Is there a password i could use to unlock my laptop

The Power on Password is stored on the 24RF08 EEPROM chip and there are no back door passwords available.
You can remove this password but you need some electronic skills to do this.

ThinkPad X20 2662 PC Notebook: how can i unlock my ibm thinkpad x20...

Hi, If you are talking about the Boot, HDD, Bios password, then the only one way to recover it is to implement a chip on the systemboard to shorcut the protection or to contact Lenovo for a systemboard replacement. Unfortunalty, no other ways other round. Thanks and have a nice day J-

I have a ibm a30 it is lock and i cant unlock it .Is there a password from ibm that i can unlock it to chang it.

You must be referring to the bios password or maybe the power on password. You can try taking out the yellow coin cmos battery located under the cover for the modem/wireless card/ bluetooth card bay. Unplug the wire and leave out for 24 hours or longer and this might do the trick. Make sure you unplug the computer and take any batteries out of the machine beforehand. If this does not work then you can always get a company to unlock it for you for a fee. Check ebay and you will see auctions based on the model of notebook you own. Cant find the colon on a IBM thinkpad

filmmakernz -

There should be a colon on any standard keyboard, to the right of the "L" key.

If you still can't find it, hold down the ALT key, then type "0", "5", "8", then release the ALT key. This should put a colon wherever you are, even in a DOS command line.
