No image on view screen - can't see what I'm aiming at!

If you wish to manually view all the photos you've taken, press the play button, it is located near the screen on the back with a triangle logo.

If you wish to automatically view photos after they've been taken, press the menu button, go to the sub menu with the pencil icon, and turn "Image review" to on.

If you wish to view the images on the back screen as you take them, this is not possible with the D80. You have to use the viewfinder.

On the icons screen, click camera icon. The camera automatically gets ready for taking a shot. Now, aim the lens situated on the top right (other) side of the phone, viewing the image on the screen, tap the 'camera image' above the Home Button. The snap is taken and saved automatically in the Camera Roll folder. To view the shot, simply touch the left-down icon (containing your snapshops), all the snaps can be seen by sliding the pics.

To view them on the camera lcd screen, press the playback button (green arrow in a green box, 2nd button down to the right of the screen) and then scroll through them one by one using the left and right buttons on the thumb pad. If you press the up and down buttons the image will advance forward and back by ten pictures each time.

To view them on a tv, turn the camera off and connect the video cable supplied with the camera to your tv input terminal (yellow). Turn the camera on set the tv to display the input feed and then use the camera playback button as before.

To view them on a computer, you'll need to upload them to the computer first. The best way is to turn the camera off and remove the memory card, and then insert it into a memory card reader connected to your computer. The computer will then prompt you to upload and display the images.

restart you unit. it probably hanged.. . if the unit wont let you restart your cam, then pull off the battery and put it back after couple of seconds

Your ccd imager is defective . You need to replace the ccd imager .Thats why screen turned red .
Connect your camera to computer and try viewing the photos .
Or use card reader to transfer photos to computer .

Replacing ccd will cost you around $150 .

My viewing screen is black. I had successfully taken a picture, viewed it, and turned the camera off. When I turned it back on about 30 seconds later, the viewing sceen was black. I can 'take' a picure, but it comes out black. Help!

Defective ccd imager!! company will replace this ccd imager free of charge. Year 2002 up to 2005 released unit has a factry defect ccd imager. the company recalled these unit and replaced with a stronger version of ccd imager. check it out.

If you want to follow my way to try fixing it yourself, keep reading and do it at your own risk. You paid several hundread dollars for the camera and I just paid $20 for it. Therefore, I tried everything I can to make it work, even if I had to open the camera body to play with the inside. Fortunately, it was not neccessary to take it apart.

Once again, AT YOUR OWN RISK to follow my way to get back your real time image screen.
Read the following steps once and make sure you understand before action.

(1) Load your camera with a freashly recharged battery.
(2) Switch on to see if it's working and still without the real time screen.
(3) Switch it off, and hold it tight in you palm with the LCD facing inward.
(4) Now, with you palm up, you should be able to see the model name 'CoolPix S6' under the lens and the flash.
(5) While holding the camera and aiming at the 'CoolPix S6', raise your other hand with the fist next to your ear.
(6) Match the aim as describe in(4) to the aim of your elbow 's protruded part and make pratice moves. Yes, you'are going to smack it
to your elbow.
(7) When you are ready, try first not to hit your elbow too hard once.
(8) Switch the camera on to check. If you have the 'Screen' now, congratulation! If not, repeat (4) to (8) but with a stronger impact
Force. You might have to try more times until your elbow could not take the sore.

I got mine fixed by performing the above steps just once, but I started at a medium impact force. Before this fix, I tried to whack it on both sides, the top and the bottom to my knee cap.

Why I chose knee cap and elbow? They hurt if you strike too hard. The target is to apply enough impact force to shake but not break the parts inside the camera.

lies all lies!. first turn on your camera and check what resolution the images are set to record at. turn your camera to picture taking mode and press the trash button once. then you will see the available resolutions you can shoot at. i recomend 4M since it is the highet quality the cam supports. make sure it is on that and your images will always be super massive. the sony DSC-S40 is way to simple and cheap to have a complex menu like other cameras, so i do not see how your problem is possible unless you were shooting a VGA res(640x480) which is very small and only good for places like myspace. on your camera screen when trying to view a 640x480 picture, you would only beable to hit the zoom button maybe once or twice. you cannot zoom in far like the larger resolution images because there is nothing to zoom into. this is the whole point of high resolution pictures. to be hig res, which allows larger images to be shows with clearity. i hope i answered the quiestion.
