Try booting in safe mode. restart laptop keep tapping f8 then boot safe mode with networking. once you booted to safe mode with networking try plugging in the ethernet cable to the lan port check if it still freezes the touchpad mouse pointer. if not then try to ran full system scan antivirus and check running programs on startup that might cause the conflict. if the problem exist in safe mode with networking download the latest bios for your system.

OS freezes after plugging in LAN cable

You could have a bad peripheral causing the lockup. Or a corrupted OS.

If you have a spare hard drive try loading the os on it and see it the issue continues. If so and you have checked out your peripherals it may be a board issue.

Network cable connection not recognized

Make sure the LAN driver is installed and working.
The LAN cable maybe faulty, try another one.
If the LAN cable is a red one then it most likely a crossover LAN cable. This cable is used to connect two computers together without a LAN hub or router.

In your laptop, when you plug the lan cable,
the led should blink.
if not blinking, you should check the router.
