Question about Cisco 1811 Router

1 Answer

Port forwarding not working on cisco 1811 router? Via the SDM, I have configured NAT, and verified that these settings are correct. However, our videophone application (which requires, TCP:1720,15328-15248 and UDP: 15328-15348) still does not work! Do I need to set up anything manually, like an ACL or something? Firewall has been disabled for troubleshooting purposes, so that's not it...

Most of the CISCO 1800 series have some ACL's configured by default.

You may want to run a show run from the CLI to make sure that there isn't one interfering.

Also from the CLI, see if you can debug port forwarding. I can't remember the command off the top of my head but I will look it up and post it for you.

do you have any inspection rules setup and applied to your inside or outside interface. if you do you may want to enable the "vedio" and itz required sub categories. Also, in "gerneral" enable "tcp" and "udp". These options allow retruning traffic back into your router.

I am trying to games on PS3 and cannot connect with friends. I believe this is because I have NAT Type 3 (closed) and I would like to change it to NAT Type 2 (moderate) but I do not know how.

Hi ..

The PS3 has 3 different NAT types. They are shown below.
Type 1: The PS3 is connected to the Internet without a firewall or router. No NAT issues.Type 2: The PS3 is connected to the Internet through a router which is configured correctly. No NAT issues.Type 3: The PS3 is connected to the Internet through a router that needs configuring.Ideally, you want to have a Type 2 NAT. However, a Type 1 NAT does not affect your game play.

First of all you will have to Disable the firewall in the Router / Modem

If you are using a Router ..

Then

Make sure that UPnP(Universal Plug n Play) is enabled
Enable the IP Address of the PS3 in DMZ

Or Forward the ports

Below are the TCP and UDP ports that need to be forwarded:

TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 5223, 3478, 3479, 3658

For more details on port forwarding , log on to http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Hope it helps

I have a cisco RV120W small business router. I am trying to access a server on the LAN from an external public IP. I have created a firewall rule but have not been successful in getting it to work. I can...

Well, you will need to do two things, make sure your ACL's are set up right and you will need an ip route statement, such as this:

ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.15 80 1.2.3.4 80 extendable

In this example, any traffic from outside coming into IP 1.2.3.4 on port 80 will be forwarded to a server on 192.168.1.15 port 80.

My xbox is connected to my internet via connecting my xbox to my laptop. I tried changing the nat settings by doing all the methods, you name it: port forwarding, DMZ, UPNP, and it STILL DOES NOT *******...

I know what you're going through as it is common on Belkin routers. There are actually some good solutions to this found on youtube for simple instruction to help demostrate but I'm gleaned you already have done some of the advanced steps. Here is my question did you ever set your xbox 360 with a static ip address and then add it to the firewall/virtual server settings. You put the static ip address in and the xbox 360 ports.

I would like to configure port fowarding on the Cisco 857 router using the http interface rather than via any coding. Is it possible and what do I need to do? In my scenario, the router must be configured...

It is possible to configure your router via a web browser. Although it’s disabled by default, your router has its own mini HTTP server built in. This provides another way to gain access to the router for the purpose of issuing commands. To enable the HTTP server, you have to use the command "ip http server" from the global configuration mode.

cisco(config)#ip http server
cisco(config)#

Then open a web browser and point it to one of your router’s IP addresses. The interface is not really nice, but you can issue commands using hyperlinks.
For security reasons I still suggest that you keep the HTTP server turned off, since it offers just another point of access for potential hacking.

What is so bad about the command line? Configuring port forwarding is actually pretty easy, once you know the commands.

Type show ip interface to find the name of the interface you want to set port forwarding for.

The show ip nat translations command shows you the current port forwards on Router.

Type configure to enter the configuration mode
The command for port forwarding is: ip nat inside source static (TCPorUDP) (YourComputersIP) (PortToForward) interface (name)(PortToForward)

in you case:
ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.0.1 5900 interface (name) 5900
and
ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.0.2 5901 interface (name) 5901
replace (name) with the interface name you got from the first command.

Then press CTRL-Z to end the Configure Session
Type copy run start once you tested your settings and press ENTER for the question Destination filename [startup-config]?

I have heard of some commercial tools that let you configure your router via web interface, but they are very expensive (around 1400$).
You can try it out for 14 days. Go here.
If you want to play with a free one, go to Cisco (link) and check it out. (You have to be a member though.)

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Dont know how to set nat type to open

For you to be able to open the NAT on the router you have to open or forward the application port on it. This router has a graphical interface where you can configure port forwarding, access http://192.168.1.1 (default) username blank and password is admin. Now look for port forwarding and open the port for your application.

Nat settings on a linksys wireless router

NAT Configuration is also called Port Forwarding. You can simply open the ports by going to the router's setup page http://192.168.1.1 no username and password is admin. You can do it under Applications and Gaming tab, Port Range Forwarding.
