I have a wallmount Microwave - Kenmore Model 665.61701100. It
has under-hood range for exhaust. One day I decided to clean the fats deposited
around microwave. I used fat cleaning spray that I had bought at Walmart. I
also used warm water to clean the mess around microwave. While cleaning,
Microwave turned on by itself and never shut off. I thought the only exhaust fan
was turning on, but after ½ hr of unit being on, I realized, it was whole
microwave on. turn-table was not turning anytime. And I started to get a strong
burning smell (as if motor was burning). I did not notice any fumes only smell.
I unplugged the microwave from wall switch to turn it off. Now any time I put
the switch back, microwave turns on & I get same strong burning smell “immediately”-
but no fumes. I left microwave alone for ~30 days to let moisture dry. And
tried hooking the microwave again. I still get this strong burning smell. I am
unable to unhook the Microwave from wall mounts & am afraid that I might
spoil the wall mantles.
What is the problem with my microwave? How should I fix it
myself?
The control circuit shorted out from the cleaning session and kept the microwave on so long with nothing to cook that it has cooked itself I'm sorry to tell you. Probably not worth repairing
My microwave just did this.... i actually opened it and it was still running... was very very hot... hopefully i didn't fry my brains.

If you clean any appliances always plug out the unit power supply do spray any liquid in the unit that can enter inside the control, instead just wipe it with rug not spray. In this situation you have to call for a qualified technician. Maybe there are some wires that burned or rust in the control that cause the short circuit inside the unit..
The problem is likely on the control panel, which we repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.
This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.
This often can affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inopoerable or stuck on.
