You can turn the LCD screen off and on to save power. This is done by turning the camera on then pressing on the top (marked DISP) of the Control button (circular) in the bottom right corner of the camera. You may have to push it several times since this also controls LCD brightness and Display of functions.
Can you get to any menus?
Try resetting all to default. Then try.
Some times the menus can be set so that you cannot see the image. Make sure the menus are set correctly for a visible image.
If the camera still does not work, then call Sony. This could be a ccd problem, and Sony may fix it for free. I am not sure of the process, as I know much more about the Nikon and Canon support.
Ask Sony for the repairs department, and see what they say according to what the model and series of this camera is.
