You can turn the LCD screen off and on to save power. This is done by turning the camera on then pressing on the top (marked DISP) of the Control button (circular) in the bottom right corner of the camera. You may have to push it several times since this also controls LCD brightness and Display of functions.

Can you get to any menus?
Try resetting all to default. Then try.
Some times the menus can be set so that you cannot see the image. Make sure the menus are set correctly for a visible image.

If the camera still does not work, then call Sony. This could be a ccd problem, and Sony may fix it for free. I am not sure of the process, as I know much more about the Nikon and Canon support.
Ask Sony for the repairs department, and see what they say according to what the model and series of this camera is.

Yes - when editing images, always copy them to your computer and do it there. Do not copy the images back to the card, as the camera will be unable to read them - as you have discovered.

Unable to see image on lcd or viewfinder but power ok.

Hi,
It is known problem of ccd imager chip failure in few Canon models and your S2 IS got that problem too, ccd imager chip will be replaced to get live view in camera mode to take fresh pictures.
Local camera repair shop will help you to replace ccd imager chip in camera or click Canon CCD Imager Support and talk to them if they can replace it for free.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

Card locked unable to delete any pictures also unable to take any pictures

Check the memory card for a white sliding plastic lug usually found on the side.it slides to protect you from accidentally deleting images, it is very easy to move this on or off.

Probably the ccd imaging unit has died, or the cable that opens the iris has failed, either way this is not a user repair

Cover open, unable to take a picture?

The cover opens in two positions. To completely open the lens cover for shooting images, slide the lens cover over until you hear two clicks. When the camera is on the first position, you can playback images.
