My 42" Proscan flat screen that I bought at Sears is only 6 months old and today it was playing fine, then the picture went black. I have sound, but no picture. What is wrong?

The tv was working fine until this morning, then the picture went out but the sound is still working.
TV is only 3 years old, no real electrical problems
The backlight inverter board may have gone out, or the power supply for the inverter may have gone out. If it is two years old, you should look at the power supply first for bad capacitors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
Please post back what you find. What is themodel number anyway?
Proscan is produced by ON Corp. They are a leading producer for most LCD screens used by a large group of TV makers. Proscan used to be a high end RCA product. The CEO of On Corp was the head of the Proscan division of RCA. After Leaving RCA and Beginning On Corp he purchased the right to the Proscan trade mark. Thus a new beginning for a old name. Many people still belive it to be an RCA TV but it is not. It has good ratings in most reviews for TV's in it price range. It is now a sears brand much like Dynex is a Best But brand.
i was watching tv and in the middle of the show the screen went black, but there still was sound. i turned it off thinking it was the cable for that program and when i turned it back on several hours later it still had no picture all connections are good.
If it is only 6 months old you probably still have a warranty. This is definitely a hardware issue, and unless you are comfortable taking your new TV apart, I would contact Samsung for repair.
