Go to control panel, and to Device manager under system, make sure you install the driver for touch pad, if not do that( download it from the website from the manfacture of your laptop) , if you did make sure that the connecter cable is pluged for the touch pad, you have to open your laptop, and connect small cable to the touch panel.

Thanks for using Fixya

Just replaced my hdd on Compac Presario 2100 but the system is not detecting it.

This model laptop came with a 60Gb hard disk and if you installed a much larger capacity hard disk then the BIOS cannot detect this hard disk.
For the BIOS to detect a large hard disk a BIOS upgrade is required (if there is one available) Check the HP/Compaq WEB site to see if there is a BIOS upgrade.
If not the try a 120Gb or smaller capacity hard drive.
As an alternative -
You can keep the existing hard drive in your laptop and use an external USB hard drive to store your data.

On the BIOS set up, it will show HDD (none) but if i return the old one the system will detect it.

This model laptop was installed with a 60Gb hard disk. When you installed a much larger hard disk the BIOS could not detect this hard drive.
Check the HP/Compac WEB site foe a possible BIOS upgrade that can support a large hard drive. Otherwise try a hard drive 120Gb or smaller.

Compac s7300cl wont turn on

Ok it seems *********** board may be dead. However, you can take out the hard drive and place it in an external hard drive storage unit/box
and plug this into any computer, and WALAH! You have another
drive letter, which is your old hard externally. You may now get your pics. You can access them via any photo software; however, you need to make sure that you save them on another drive letter, and or folder. Not the external drive Letter it may be called D or E.

This model laptop is installed with an IDE 40Gb hard drive.
You can use a faster hard drive but the BIOS limits the maximum size hard drive you can install.
Check the specification of this laptop for the maximum size hard drive you can install.

THE KEYBOARD KEY "J" KEEPS TYPING BY ITSELF OVER

Hi,

This could be because the key is stuck inside. Tap the J Key gently or a bit hard or try to pull it out ( dont remove it off ). Normally hitting a bit hard on the Key solves the problem.

Nx9010 notebook coming up with disk read error dont have recovery disc this is my granson's computer

it`s very possible to be a hard drive error, the main thing what you can do is to try to install the operating system over the old one if that goes ok it means that you had a premature shutdown and the files where corrupted if the problem persist it`s a hardware problem.. solution is to buy another harddrive

Compac laptop opens programs too slow.

It probably is due to Spyware, Malware or other infections.
Go to malwarebytes.org and download the free scanner.
Run it and see.
