What software are you using to burn with? Have you tried other CD's? What are you trying to burn? Is the file/files copyright protected? Will the DCD/CD rom play media? Have you upgraded your OS?

Can you hear it "spinning" the media? If not, you have a "defective" unit (motors or bearings).
If it spins, but nothing is read, then you have a "defective" unit (dead laser).
Take it back to where you bought it, and get them to test it, to prove that it is "bad", and then for them to replace it.

Control panel,administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area

can u be more specific, as there is no need for any driver to install CD drives

The lens for reading dvd is busted and needs to be replaced that is why it no longer read dvd.
