51'' Philips rear projection TV with color issues

I have a 51'' Philips 51PP9100D/37 that I recently bought used. The TV is supposedly less than two years old. The first thing I noticed is that the picture looks to have a yellow tint to it.
For example, white writing appears yellowish to me. I then noticed that there is a bluish white spotlight effect towards the middle of the screen which actually appears to move a bit at times. A better example of that would be when it is a black screen with white credits, all of the writing appears to have a light shining from behind creating a bright cloud around the writing.

Dark scenes are extremely dark, colors are way off, but in general the clarity is not too terrible...it's not unusable. I don't have HD hooked to it yet but it doesn't matter if I'm watching satellite or a DVD, I get the same problem.

I found info in the forums for adjusting color convergence, which I attempted with little to no results. This tv only gives two color options in the menu; red and blue. I can adjust the red just fine, but when I adjust the blue, the spotlight cloud effect is so bad behind the crosses that I can't tell if they're off or not.

Any suggestions/diagnosis?

Thank you!

Philips has had a big problem with there coolant fluid becoming cloudy. The only way to clear it up is to have the fluid changed. With every projection crt tv there is a layer of cooling fluid between the face of the crt and the lens. This coolant cools the face of the crt. Over time the coolant breaks down and the light coming through gets distorted. The crt's have to be removed from the set to do this.

I have an 51pp9100d/37 Phillips Tv, and i the red and green colors on the picture are skewed to a weird, almost sideways, S shape. I was wondering if this is an easy fix and cheap, i don't really know...

From what you have said it seems that you need to replace the Convergence ICs, they are Big Black ICs and will have Part number on them ,example STK392-110
Mats Electronics has Parts $9.95 each IC. 1-800-628-1118
PTS rebuilts boards 1-800-844-7871

I Specifically have a 2005 Phillips 50" Projection

on your remote go to menu, then push picture then scroll down to converge then depending on what color is out of line you will push that, then what ever is out of line you line it up by the up arrow.if that don;t work then there are parts on your board gone bad.

I need the service mode sequence for my philips 51pp9100d/37 so I can manually change the resolution on my tv. The resolution somehow was changed and when I HDMI my laptop to the tv it wont display t

I suspect that you may be using a cable or sat box rather than that set's internal atsc tuner.
Sometimes these boxes are not set up properly or reset themselves to a lower resolution.
Go into your box's settings menu nd look for the resolution settings. Verify that all of the modes or at least the maximum resolution for your set is enabled.

PIP does not work

The PIP can only use one tuner at a time, if one is on CATV, the other has to be on an AV input. you would need a catv box for the AV input for this to properly function.

Tv turning on and off itself

Try "hiding" the remote from the set so that the TV cannot "see" it. Hope this little trick helps...accordianman
