Does your stereo have a childs lock? If it does; why? Anyway the cd open button could be defected. Possibily a loose connection on the cd open switch on the inside of the unit. Also dose the remote have this function? Check the battery. Clean the remote sensor on the front of the remote and on the stereo.

Hope this helps.

I've got a JVC FS-G5 5 disc system. With multiple disc in the unit, it tries to read the CD, yet can't seem to find anything. It gives a "no disc" readout.

Is the cd's scratched at all? If cd's are fine? Clean the lazer eye with cotton swab and alcohol. please make sure the unit is unplugged.

Error code "protect" comes on the scree when turned on

This a memory problem ,try to look for the reset button and press it . If you can't find the reset button then the other option is unplug the unit for 24 hours the purpose is to reset and dessipate or drain the charged current .

Hope it may help you;

CD player ate a CD!!

I fixed the same issue by forcibly pulling individual trays to their open position.  I removed the casing to gain better access (tons of screws) but you can probably gain clear access to the shelfs without removing the casing if you have good needlenose plyers.  I found a stuck CD within one of shelfs, wedged WITHIN the moving components of the shelf.  It works perfectly now.

Cd player opens when turned on and will not function

JVC recommends leaving the unit unplugged for 30 minutes to reseet the system - I'm trying that now, and will keep you posted!
