Re: new camera ,not working.
Lol, ok...The memory card will only go in one way. But check the little white switch on the side of the memory card and make sure it is NOT in the locked position. Once this is taken care of reinstall the memory card. Now in you options/menu screen you can select on there where you want your pictures to be stored...Device / Memory / Auto. You can either put it on Memory or Auto (if you have this). In addition, you may need to format your new memory card. This is also in your menu screen to Format Memory Card. Go ahead and do this. But be forwarned...if you do this when you have pictures on your card, it will erase all of your pictures completely. If you do those things, everything should work fine. You don't need a full charge for your camera to work, but if you have rechargable batteries, it is recommended to fully charge your camera before use. If you are using standard AA batteries this isn't necessary. Oh, and when your memory card is in the camera you should see a little icon on your LCD screen that looks like a mini memory card. This is an indicator that the camera recognizes you have the memory card in the camera and along with that will be a counter...ie 4/1200. The first number is the amount of pictures taken on the card currently and the second number is the total possible pictures you can take on the card before it is full.

Normally, you can only insert an SD card one way. Try a different SD card or check to see if the SD card you're using has the "write protect" switch on. If that's not the issue try formatting the card in your PC and then format it in the camera.
The camera takes SD cards up to 2GB (not SDHC cards). If you've been taking pictures using the camera's internal memory, you must first get rid of those pics. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions. Then, insert your new card and go through the "format" routine again to prepare the new card.
A few things can be happening first the SD card may have the lock switch in the lock position I'm including a diagram to show the correct positioning.
The next thing is you said you put a new SD card in. All memory cards need to be formatted to the camera they are going to be used in formatting cleans the card (yes I know it's new) and makes it compatible to the camera. Also each time you download pictures to the computer the memory card needs to be formatted to re clean the memory card and make it ready to accept new pictures. One other thing your camera has a small capacity in todays standards and the largest SD card I see being used is a 256mb, if the new card is larger then 256mb this could be the problem as well. If this is the case then it might be possible to update the camera firmware. However it would be a whole lot easier to purchase a 256mb card. Format the new card making sure the lock is in the right position and continue on as you have been.
First, with no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory. Then, insert your new card and do the format thing again to prepare the card for use in your particular camera. Enjoy!
sorry but the sdhc card wont work for that model... that type of mem card only works for compact cameras ( think higher/latest cam models).. so dont buy it, you will only get errors when u use it for ur camera and even if u format it over and over put it in put it out in out, still wont work
Putting your pictures on you computer can be done in a couple of ways.
1. You can connect the camera to the computer, using the supplied cable, and then turn on the power to the camera. Your computer should detect the new camera device, and within 'Windows Explorer', you should 'see' your camera as a new device, which you can click on to view / manage your new pictures from there.
2. You could remove the memory card from the camera, and place it in the memory card reader of your computer, or alternatively purchase an inexpensive adapter to read memory cards, which would then connect to an available USB port on your computer.
The advantage of the second option is that you don't need the camera present, nor need a camera powered on during viewing.
There are cameras having dual memory, that is inbuilt and card memory. Suppose your pictures can be downloaded from the inbuilt memory.your card may have problems. You try to format the card using camera and then give another try.
couple possibilities. first I would try formatting the card from a pc. do you buy any chance have a card reader for your computer. in xp you just right click on the card and format it. if that dosn't work there is a chance that the card is defective. go to the store you bought it and see if they can help you there. Sorry if that dosn't help. Have fun in Australia btw. And good luck
