You're classically describing a very common trouble. Common enough that Microsoft has published a KnowledgeBase (KB314060) article concerning it. Accompishing the actions detailed there should "FixYa" up.

Good luck, and please do post back ...

Driver for Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K16D

Suggest you try this, Chris;

Go to Device Manager.

[WinXP:
Start > Right-click on My Computer > Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list > Left-click on the Hardware tab. Left-click on Device Manager

Win Vista/ Win 7:
Windows logo button > Right-click on Computer > follow the above ]

When Device Manager loads click on the + sign, to the left of DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right-click right on the name of the optical drive. (CD/DVD drive)

Left-click on Uninstall.

A Microsoft 'squawk box' will come up; "Warning you are about to uninstall this device"
It's OK. Click on OK.

Now close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Restart your computer.

(WinXP: Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart
Win Vista/Win 7: Windows logo button > Restart )

When Windows fully loads you will get a pop-up, out of the system tray, "Found new hardware device", and perhaps another one, "Found Pioneer DVD-RW"

Windows has the habit of losing drivers. Let's see if this 'slaps Windows around'.

Regards,
joecoolvette

[Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device.

Windows XP/Vista/7 is the O/S, the optical drive is the device ]

Gud morning, I my dvd desappered. I cant load any cd. the iocon is not showning. how do i rectify this. I am using HP Pavillion dv6700. my dvd device is "pioneer dvd rw dvr-k17b ata device". Please i need...

ok first of all has anything vhanged, there is a known problem when upgrading XP to vista, where te cdrom.sys rivers arent installed. this is fixable but tedious, if it just simply dissapeared without change, go to device manager:

XP: START> RIGHT click my computer > click "properties" > "Hardware" tab > click the "device manager" button.
VISTA: START> RIGHT click my computer > click "properties" > on the left click "device manager"

under DVD/CD-ROM drvices, you should see your dvd drive, now the field is probably expanded already and it most probably has a yellow exclamation mark next to the device, or it has a large yellow question mark. this means the driver for the vd rive has either failed or is not working properly.

quick fix for this is to simply RIGHT click on the device, click uninstall, confirm, and once un-installed, re-start the machine. apon restart windows should automatically detect the dvd drive as a new device and install it.

if there is simply no device listed under DVD/CD-ROM devices, or the catergory isnt there, windows isnt detecting it at all, which commonly means the dvd drive itself has failed, (the fact it may be powered and opens/closes is irrelevant). but before throwing it away, try changing the IDE/SATA cable. if the uninstall/re-install doesnt work, you may need to re-install it from a winows disk, which is a little tricky. but can be done. let me know if it doesnt work and i will pace you through it.

Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17a

Dear Sir/Madam,

This is the problem of not matching/support the motherboard of your driver with Pioneer DVD. U just go the manufacturing site of Pioneer dvd and download the driver / updates and then install it. (Before u uninstall the driver). Then fix it.

Thanks
