I just bought a new HP home computer which runs Vista (64 bit), and need to upgrade the printer driver for my epson R800 photo printer. However, I can not download the driver from epson's web site, as it keeps timing out. Any suggestions on now to upgrade driver

Well many companies make only the basic drivers for 64 bit. The manufacturers website may upgrade drivers, but the software with all the bells and whistles may not run on 64.

Some older printers don't have a driver (software that tells the PC how to work the printer) for Windows 7. This website is Epson's Support site, and lists a driver that it says is "compatible" with windows vista.

sometimes Vista drivers will work with Windows 7, but not always. Choose either the 32-bit driver for Vista, or the 64-bit driver for vista, depending on which edition of Windows 7 you are using.

If that doesn't work, then you unfortunately either need a new printer, or you need to hook that printer up to a computer that is running Windows vista or older.

I had the same problem. I tried to install my new HP Photosmart 8550 printer onto my HP desktop, I am running on Vista 64 bit. Kept getting fatal error MSI.dot4wrp40 over and over again. Upset that my Windows installer was corrupted. I search the internet for this error and realized that this only comes up with NEW HP Printers and scanners. I went to Epson's website and downloaded a driver for one of their photo printers and downloaded the driver for the Epson Stylus Photo1400 Vista 64 bit driver, and guess what it installed I went and bought this printer and I am up and running again. Sorry HP I am jumping ship. The week before I tired to install this HP printer, I installed Print Shop Pro Publisher 23, Blackberry desktop, and Canon digital utilities which in fact all use Window Installer. All installed with no problem, and they are all working. I believe this error message has to be a conflict between HP and Microsoft's 64 bit OS only.... Google THIS ERROR and you will notice only HP comes up.

If I knew what software you have, I would have had instruction for your too

Go to the web site below and download and install
Twain Driver ver 3.04 for Vista and the Printer Driver version 6.5 or 5.5 for Vista
The Twain Driver ver 3.04is number 5 down the list for both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista
If your computer is 64 bit, and that is what I thought your computer was, because you have home premium. Then you need number 4 down the list. It be number 5 if you have 32-bit Vista.


The printer driver version 6.5 is number 4 down the list

When you go to that web site you'll see a tab Support and Driver-select tab
Next select All in One-view all
and then a meun will display and select your printer model and just follow the steps To the file to download above.

Save the driver to a specific directory. Unplug USB from the printer, wait a minute and plug USB back in. When the wizard detects the new hardware, manually select the dirver from the specific directory. Do not let the wizard search for the driver. You select the driver manually. Good Luck

It is supposed to yes, as I simply looked on the epson.ca website since i'm from canada, and in the drivers downloads page, the drivers and ICM color profiles that you can download are both listed as working with Vista 64-bit. The Vista 64bit driver can be found here There's also specific installation notes - one states not to use the CD provided if it does not say Vista on it!

Here is the problem... Because the printer has more then one feed, your program(i.e. MS word) is selecting the CD tray by default.

The solution in MS Word is to go to the Envelopes and Settings then select OPTIONS.

There should be a option in here to select the other tray.
