You ordered the wrong battery, theres two types, your original would have been 11.1v if you check the new one it will be 14.8v. They are not compatable.
Check the power adapter with a multi-meter, the voltage of the power plug that plugs into the power socket on the laptop should be slight higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the adapter. If it is faulty, there are replacement power supplies available on the Internet or at your friendly computer shop. If the adapter is OK then the power socket on the laptop is faulty or this socket has a dry solder joint connection on the motherboard. You can test this by wriggling the power plug when it is connected to the laptop, if the charge LED flickers and if you hold this plug in a certain position the charge LED stays on without flickering, then the power socket is faulty. This can be repaired, but requires the laptop to be completely disassembled. I suggest you get a quote first.
Your motherboard is probably shorting out your A/C adapter, you may need a new motherboard. With a Dell, the A/C adapter light will be green when plugged into the wall but as soon as you plug it into the PC the green light goes off. Which means that the Motherboard is shorting out the A/C adapter...
Sorry to tell you this but you may have a problem with the charging system. That will require you to return it to Acer or an Acer service center. You can also try this. I got this from Acers' travelmate support website:
If the notebook does not power on:
Make sure the ac adapter is correctly plugged into the notebook and into the power cord.
If everything is plugged in correctly and it still will not power on, follow these steps to complete a ‘power reset' of the notebook.
Unplug the ac adapter. Keep ac adapter unplugged.
Remove the battery and keep the battery unplugged.
Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds. (Nothing will appear on the display and none of the lights will light up.)
Release the power button and plug in the ac adapter ONLY. (Please note that a power indicator light should be lit on the ac adapter when it is plugged in).
Normally power on the notebook.
If the unit does not power on, remove the ac adapter and insert the battery into the system.
Plug the ac adapter back into the system, the battery charging indicator light will light up. If the battery charging indicator light does not light up, the ac adapter may not be providing proper power to the unit, and may need to be replaced.
You can aslo google your specific model of Travelmate to see if others are having this issue.
