Okay when i went to turn on my Garmin nuvi 260 it ask me for a pin or password and i forgot it. Then it says to go to your safe location and i dont remember if i set one of those. So how do i unlock it?

If you forgot your PIN, take the unit to the location at which you entered the PIN. The unit will unlock, and you can turn off the Garmin lock or enter a different PIN.

I would do one of two things: ask the seller for the PIN or return it and get your money back. You cannot get past the PIN number without entering the correct PIN, taking the unit back to the location at which the PIN was entered or returning the unit to Garmin. However, Garmin requires proof of purchase in order to send the unit back to you.

The Security Location is the location that you set when you first enabled the Garmin Lock on your device. Returning to the Security Location will unlock your device. (Approximately 150 feet from that location)

The secure location is your "back-up key" in case you forget your PIN. If you have forget your pin, all you have to do is physically go to the secure location. Make sure your antenna is up and that you have a satellite lock. When you are in the secure location, your GPS will NOT ask you for the PIN when you turn it on. You'll then be able to reach the main menu and change the PIN and secure location to something else if you desire.

If you have forgot both the PIN and secure location you are out of luck. You'll have to send your unit back to Garmin to have it unlocked. Garmin may charge you for this service.

If you forgot your password, Garmin lock has an option to unlock it by going to the location the password was set. This is called security location, usually your home or the drive way.

Unfortunatly if you have forgotten your pin then the only way to unlock this is to return to the area where this was first entered as this is a safe location and will not ask you for the pin. If this doesn't work tehn it will need to be returned to garmin but will cost to have the pin removed

You have to take your unit back to your Safe Location where you set your PIN number (usually your home). Otherwise, you'll have to send it to Garmin with the receipt to have it reset.

Find out where your "friend" did the code. If you don't know what it is, then you have to go back to that exact location where they did it and it will automatically unlock it for you. Then you can follow the instructions below:

Answer: If you can remember the PIN Code previously set on your device you will be able to change the Pin on your device easily. You can change the PIN on the unit by doing the following:
Zumo's, Street Pilot Cxx, Nuvi 3xx, 6xx

1. Turn your device on
2. Touch the Spanner symbol
3. Touch System
4. Touch On/Off next to Garmin Lock

Within this section you can add or change a PIN.
All Nuvi's excluding 3xx and 6xx

1. Turn your device on
2. Touch Tools
3. Touch Settings
4. Touch Security
5. Touch On/Off under Garmin Lock

Within this section you can add or change a PIN.

When the Garmin security lock is set it locates the units current GPS location.
If you are trying to change the Garmin Lock and are not within the same location to where the Garmin Lock was set you will need to revert back to this GPS position.

Once at this position you will not be prompted to enter the PIN Code when starting the device up and can change the code as you please.

I think the true purpose of the pin is for another income stream to garmin they want $110 to unlock it. If not then why not just register a pin when you register for the warranty then just use your MY GARMIN to get it when you need it???
