I had the same problem, check your batteries, I tried several different batteries and then recharged the original Samsung batteries. I also checked the battery contacts in the camera housing.
I also hooked up the USB cable to the camera and turned it on. The computer did not recognize the camera the first couple of tries. However on the third try it recognized the camera, and the lens went out and in. The little green led at the picture mode wheel stayed on and i was able to view pictures on my PC. I then unplugged the USB and turned the camera on again. The camera started up as if nothing had ever happened. I don't know if it was an actual battery problem, a battery contact problem or a software glitch in the unit. However, the camera is working fine again.
Samsung User Support will advise whether this is replaceable under warranty or a recall for faulty manufacture

lens stays out even with new batterys
battery went flat whilst using camera, replaced batteries and now with lense out, when you turn it on it beeps 3 times and shuts down..
