Monitor will not support refresh rate, how do i change it if I can not get a screen image?

You don't say which operating system you are using.

The monitor resolves images across a fixed range of resolutions and resfresh rates.

It is the resolution of the graphics card or graphics adapter that can be changed, not that of the monitor.

Right click on empty space on your desktop > properties > settings.

Left click and hold on the slider and slide to the right in stages.

Each resolution change offers you a test page to accept or reject.

When satisfied Apply > Yes > Ok.

To reset the Refresh Rate:

Properties > settings > Advanced > Refresh Rate.

Then restart your computer.

Be careful not to exceed the resolution/refresh rate range of your monitor (1280 x 1024) / 75.0 Hz because if you do, when you restart the computer, the monitor will be unable to resolve the image and you will get a blank screen and/or an Out Of Range error message.

An out of range problem might only be resolved by using a different monitor to reset the resolution back to within the range of the preferred monitor.

Answer Sometimes if the refresh rate isnt set high enough you will see a noticeable flicker on the screen .. to change the monitor refresh rate .. you can right click on the desktop and then left click on properties .. click on the setting tab then click on the advanced tab then click on the monitor tab ..look in the drop down menu where it says 60 hertz and see if the refresh rate can be changed .. if it cant .. uncheck hide modes the monitor cant see and then click on the drop down menu .. pick a refresh rate .. 75 hertz is what i use and it should stop the flicker

Answer well one major cause can be the weakness of the electron gun that fire electrons on the silicon plate (pixels) that produces image on the screen so there must be some problem in electron gun in my view

Any monitor has something called a screen refresh rate. If you are replacing your old monitor with a newer one, there is sth called a screen refresh rate that you need to configure. Older monitors (size also matter) have a lower screen refresh rate than the newer ones. If that happens to be your case, find the refresh rate of your new LCD on its manual and adjust it like this.

1. Right click on an icon free area on your desktop.
2. Click Properties
3. On the Property dialog click on the Settings Tab
4. At the bottom of the form click on Advanced
5. On the coming property dialog click on the monitors tab
6. Under Monitor Settings you will find the screen refresh rate combo box, here select the rate that suits you screen and click apply.
7. confirm your actions in the confirmation window.

Note: Be sure to select a screen refresh rate that matches your screen. If you select a rate bigger than the LCD's capacity you will end up with a black screen on your monitor and won't be able to see the desktop unless you boot in safe mode.

This usually happens when you select a resolution or a refresh rate that is beyond the monitor range. For example if your monitor supports a max. resolution of 1024x768 then if you give it a signal of 1600x1200 it will display out of range.

Solution of this problem is to reduce the resolution or refresh rate frequency.

Changing screen resolution in Windows XP: First right-click on the desktop and then left click on Properties from the menu that appears.

The display properties dialogue box will appear as shown in fig 1.1 below, click on the settings tab at the top right of the box.



The areas worth noting are:

Screen Resolution
This slide bar is what you use to change the resolution, the options you have will depend on your graphics card and monitor, but the standard options are 800x600, 1024x768 and 1152x864.

Normally the default (in XP) is set to 800x600 which means the display will be 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels high.

"Out Of Range" means your video adapter is set to a resolution/refresh rate setting that is outside the range of supported signals.

Go into your Video Adapter's settings, look at resolution then the refresh rate (Hertz), and compare to those supported by the monitor.

When I had a similar problem, I noticed that somehow, the refresh rate was set at 59HZ which is unsupported. After changing to 60HZ (which is supported) the problem went away.

If you are using windows, there is an option to show only refresh rates supported by the monitor. Start with 60hz and go from there. Remember that the bigger the resolution, the smaller refresh rate it will handle.

If the refresh rate is not properly set the monitor may have a wavy or an appearance that lines are going down ... This may also cause a flickering affect.
Distorted or skewed image on monitor. Issue: Distorted or skewed image on monitor.
Cause: This issue can occur from any of the below possibilities.

1. Windows issue.
2. Loose or defective cable.
3. Refresh rate issue
4. Interference.
5. Bad monitor.

Solution: Windows Issue If your monitor has a proper display until it gets into Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows ME, or Windows XP please see document CH000121 for software or setting related issues.
Loose or defective cable You may receive a distorted image when the cable is loose or defective. Disconnect the video cable going from the back of the computer and verify that no pins are bent, burnt or broken. Once verified re-connect the monitor cable.
Refresh rate issue If the refresh rate is not properly set the monitor may have a wavy or an appearance that lines are going down or across the monitor slowly or fast. This may also cause a flickering affect. Additional information about how to change the refresh rate can be found on document CH000558.
Interference A distorted image can be caused by magnetic or other types of interference. Verify no speakers, fans or other magnetic devices are close to the monitor.
Bad Monitor If the above possibilities have been checked it is likely that the monitor is bad. To verify this it is recommended that the monitor be temporarily disconnected and then connected to another computer. This can be a friends computer, a work computer, and/or a computer at a service center. You can also help verify a defective monitor by connecting another monitor to your computer. Note: Connecting your possibly defective monitor to another computer will in no way harm the other computer.
