Can this modem work on a gateway laptop?

1) try turning off and restarting the modem and router.
2) if you are using a dsl connection check if the modem is in bridge mode with your isp.
if yes then
type click on start->run->cmd and press enter
in the black window type ipconfig
now note the default gateway and type the default gateway in the internet explorer Eg \\192.168.1.1
check if the router is set to connection type as pppoe.
enter your usernaem and password and save the internet light will go on.

if the modem is not in bridge mode then try connecting you pc directly with the modem and check if the internet is working not not. if not contact your isp for settings.
if internet is working fine.
not connect your router to your modem and then your router to your computer.
type click on start->run->cmd and press enter
in the black window type ipconfig
now note the default gateway and type the default gateway in the internet explorer Eg \\192.168.1.1
check if the router is set to optain ip automatiicaly and save changes.
if you still face any issue let me know.

I would hook your laptop up directly to your broadband modem and bypass your router to rule it out. Plug the network cable from your modem into your laptop. Unplug the power on your broadband modem and plug it back in. Restart your laptop and see if you get on-line.

If you can...your router is the issue. If you cannot....I would check with your internet service provider before troubleshooting further.

your internet gateway (the modem)if you have att you must turn on the the wireless inside your 17XXhg gateway modem if you don't then you have another system I gave you a example to clear your question if you need more help please repost with more information

Yes. You need to configure the router. Most of the new routers come with a cd that will guide you. You can also call ATT and they will guide you as well.

Are you using a firewall? Did you tell the firewall that the browser has permission to access the internet (go beyond the local network of the modem)?

Try resetting the modem whenever you change between those PC's some NIC's will hang a cable modem stuck on an address.

what brand of wireless modem you have, what os are you using?did you switch on the wireless in your laptop? sometimes we overlook the most simple things, it happens to me..
ok, you have to configure your laptop to connect to your wireless modem, how? just connect first your laptop with wire to the wireless modem, does it work? if it does work you can take the default gateway ip add from your pc by typing IPCONFIG on the command prompt , then type it in your internet explorer address bar.

example default gateway..... 192.168.1.254

and supply the username and password, you can now configure your wireless connection wep/wpa configuration.

I am guessing you are connecting that netgear card wirelessly? Does it get an IP address? Have you tried pinging the router from the laptop once the connection has been made? Try this. Go to the start menu, click the run button and in there type cmd and press enter. Once the black command prompt is open try ping yahoo.com See if that comes up with anything. Also try typing ipconfig and press enter. It will show 3 things.
IP address
subnet
gateway.

The gateway should be your 2wire modem.
Try ping gateway ip and see if that works.

Re-installing your OS won't help..
Configuring your connections may help

1. Go to control panel.
2. choose network and internet connections
3. click the network connections
4. create new connections.

If you're using an IP addesss, pls. assign an ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS1 and DNS2.

Sounds like your laptop is hit with spyware and or viruses. Try starting it in safe mode (F8) and seeing if you still have this problem. If it works in safe mode go to grisoft.com and download the antimalware free trial. Restart in normal mode and install and run the trial version.
