Dell Inspiron 1501 CD-Rom wont play.I can hear it start to spin. Can play stored music.Have no CD Rom or filters showing under "Device manager".

If the CD-ROM drive is not being detected under the device manager, chances are that either the power/data cable is loose or the drive is dying. To check the cables, turn off the power, unplug the power cord, open the case and examine the two plugs behind the drive. Touch yourself to something metal first to discharge static electricity.
If it turns out the drive is dead, then luckily drives are usually very cheap to replace. Somewhere in the line of $15 usually.

My cd\dvd rom will not read or write compaq presario cq51251t on device manager . shows an exclam.mark in yellow triangle but windows says the driver is up to date

Hi Friend,
Just remove the device with exclamation mark from device manager and restart your system. When your system restart again, automatically, it will detect the new hardware and install it properly.

Thanks,

Ok... my problem is that my computer wont detect my cdrom. my bios is off.. I don`t know how many cylinders or sections it has and it wont pick it up on auto? what do I do? I know that something is a...

Before the BIOS can detect any piece of hardware the drivers must be loaded. The best place to get the most current drivers is the manufacturers website. If you received CD ROMs with your purchase there should be a driver disc there also. You could load that one first just get it started then go to the manuf website.
Another thing you can check is Device Manager. Device Manager will show all of your hardware. Find your CD ROM device in Device Manager, right click on it and update drivers. This should take are of your problems.

Acer aspire can't find the dvd to play cd's

In the device manager, select the DVD ROM and UNINSTALL / REMOVE the device.  Restart Windows . . . did this work?  If not, boot into your CMOS and see if the drive is being detected by the motherboard... if yes, look further and make sure the settings for the drive are correct. Make sure that all IDE interfaces are enabled in the CMOS settings (both)
