Windows vista pc does not recognise my canon 350d?

You need to change the camera's USB connection mode from "PC" to "Print/PTP" in camera setting menu. After that it should be recognized by Windows 7 without drivers.

For the camera to be 'recognised' by Windows, you need an USB port with a correct driver installed (should be automatically in Win XP SP2 and later, Vista, Win7, ...)
Then you need a 'good' (tested) USB cable to connect to the PC.
The OS should detect a new USB device after connection of the camera AT the MOMENT the camera is switched ON ...

Hi Found best solution is not to even try and hook up camera to a Vista PC but instead to use a card reader and download onto prefered softeware on PC.

try to plug the printer usb cable to all the usb ports you have at your pc. if still not working, change the usb cable.

Both the Canon XT 350D and the XTi 400D are recognized by any PC with XP windows operative system. It seems you have to check your USB port or USB cable used to connect your cameras to the PC. Sometimes, the PC does not recognize a specific device connected to an USB port. Yopu can get into the System -device manager screen, and uninstall the USB port, and run the utility to recognize changes in the device manager. This will install the USB port driver again, and if it is a software issue the reason of the problem, then it will be fixed.

Also, you can check your cameras and USB cable in a different PC so you can confirm if they both work has should be.

The main problem can be due to the operating windows u have in the system.please do uninstall either xp or vista . their may be problem due to the overlapping of two operating windows.. (or)

please do check out for the usb port.there may be some loose contacts which is denying proper access to system

Isn't the "VistaScan" software designed for a Umax scanner?
It is probably proprietary software. If it is a Canon camera, it most likely came with something like ZoomBrowser.

Buy a card reader from an electronics store. AU$35 - $45 Solved my problem of Office XP Windows ignoring my 350D.

This solution works. I spent a lot of time on the Canon site trying to download a driver for Windows Vista. It was all wasted. Thanks for the help.
