Deleted Images Hello We have just recently bought this camera and have been taking footage. We purchased RW discs. We have used the one side and we formalised it and were busy trying to edit and delete with the camera. We came across the option VR and without realising accidentally deteled all the recordings on the one side. The only frustrating part is when we tried to select the panes to delete the camera did not mark it with a tick and we could not hold the image on the LCD screen to confirm. And before we knew it, it had deleted the whole side. Is there any way we can retreive this? If so how. Thanks for all your help Derek Marais

How do you delete videos from your sony handycam DCR-DVD405

This Sony camcorder uses mini-DVDs to record and there are certain restrictions when DVD is used, it is not like videotape. For a DVD-R disc, you cannot delete video once it is recorded because this type of disc is a record once only. Depending on which other disc type you use and how it was initialized, you MAY be able to delete video. For a DVD+RW disc, or a DVD-RW disc initialized in VIDEO mode, you can delete the last scene IF you have not removed the disc and not recorded any new video. For a DVD-RW disc initialized in VR mode, you can delete anytime. And here is how:
Turn on camcorder and press PLAY. Select the video or still image tab that contains the data you want to delete. Touch EDIT. Touch DELETE. Select what you want deleted. The selected scene is marked with a checkmark. Press and hold the image on the LCD screen to confirm. Touch RETURN to go back to previous screen. Touch OK - YES. You cannot recover data once deleted. There is also a DELETE ALL to delete all video or images.

Just bought samsung sc-dx200 using sony dvd/rw disk and it reads not suppported disc why?

The user manual states:-

"The disc is not recognized in the DVD camcorder. The disc has been finalised in a camcorder manufactured by another company."

In plain English this means that the disc must never have been used in another DVD recording device.

It further states:-

"The supported discs are DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW. Use a new disc."

Double check that you are using DVD-RW and not DVD+RW. They are NOT the same although many devices can use both types. Your camera only uses the DVD- standard and not the DVD+ discs.

If you are using new discs which have never previously been used and if the discs are of the correct type, then you have a faulty camera which will need repair or replacement.

I hope that my answer has been of assistance to you in fixing your problem or has helped you to decide what to do next. Please take a moment to rate my reply.

Disc Read Error Sony DVD Handycam

Does your camera have other outputs, i.e., composite-video and L/R audio ?

If the disk "plays" inside your video-camera, then use a "video-capture" USB device, to "play" the movie into the USB device, and "record" from the USB device into your computer.

InDisc Recovery

The demo will tell you if it worked or not, but won't let you save what it found. I bought the software (I think it was less than $20), and it worked just like it said. My dvd-403 frequently messes up the mini-disc whenever I try to eject it (says it's blank after I remove the disk from the camera). The software scans (I recommend the "full" scan) the mini-dvd, and then you can save the results to your hard drive. The only disadvantage is that it sometimes finds all the video...including footage previously "deleted". You then have to use an editing program to remove the footage you don't need.

Anyway, the software was well worth the money since it saved memories from a disc I thought would be a "coaster"!

Hope this helps!

Format a cd

First some explanations:

The Canon DC210 will only take 'minus' format DVDs (DVD-R, DVD-R DL and DVD-RW). Only the DVD-RW must be formatted (initialised) before use. During initialisation you'' be asked whether you want to initialise the disc in VIDO mode or in VR mode.

VIDEO mode: Once finalised discs recorded in VIDEO mode can be played back in most common DVD players, offering the best compatibility. However, recordings cannot be edited (deleted, rearranged etc) on the camcorder.

VR mode: You can easily edit the recordings on the camcorder. However, discs recorded in VR mode can only be played back with DVD players that are compatible with DVD-RW discs in VR mode.

My preference is Video mode - I can then play the disc on a DVD player and edit it on a PC.

Now, to initialise a DVD-RW

1. Press the 'FUNC.' key
2. Use the joystick to select 'MENU' - it's in the bottom left corner of the screen
3. Use the joystick to select 'DISC OPERATIONS'
4. Use the joystick to select 'DISC INITIALIZE'
5. Use the joystick to select either 'VIDEO' or 'VR' mode
6. Use the joystick to select 'YES' to confirm your choice
7. Use the joystick to select 'YES' to start initialising the disc

Close the menu only after the screen display returns to the 'DISC OPERATIONS' menu.

Don't forget to rate this solution once you've tried it !
