Dell Vostro 1000 Bios - Flash Failure

I attempted to update the BIOS on my Vostro 1000 to cure the bad battery message. My original BIOS was 2.6.1 and I intended to update to 2.6.3.

I could not flash under Windows 7 so I installed XP but the flash failed half way through.and the computer did not power up again. All that happened after I pressed the power switch was the light came on and the CD drive shuffled a couple of times. No screen illumination.

Various posts were scanned but no solution found until my buddie came up with the following sequence.

Get the file posted in this link on a computer running XP

This worked for me and as a bonus I do not have the battery error message anymore.

I have a fujitsu e8410 which will not start up properly, when i push the start button it shows power but then the fan comes on and the cap num and shift lock leds flash and nothing else. can you help?

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.

HP BEEPS WHEN STARTS UP AND WONT RUN

This is a warning that some piece of hardware is not working. You may want to check fans making sure that they are functioning to keep your devices cooled down. If these stop working you may have burned out the CPU chip. Most likely it is a memory stick or a mouse or keyboard that may not be connected properly make sure that everything is connected and in their right ports. What I do to find this out what it is I isolate devices to see if the beeping with stop or it will start the BIOS. I start with the mouse then keyboard then anything that is plugged in externally I unplug one at a time powering up each time I undo a device if the beeping stops then that is the problem device. You can also go in the computer case and undo the hard drive and one stick of memory one by one. If it continues and you have illuminated just about everything then it may be the system board itself.

More than likely it is a memory chip you know it is not the power supply because it starts up. If you do not want to do this process of illumination most folks do not. I suggest you take it in and let the people who can best fix this do the job. They can determine the issue rather quickly by reading the codes on the BIOS flash page when the computer first starts up try and see what it is saying when it comes on if you get the BIOS at least to flash information for you. The machine will say keyboard not installed or no hard drive found. Also you can go back by removing any devices that you just replaced or added this could also be the cause.

Last ditch effort unplug the computer from the power outlet push in the power button hold for about 2-3 seconds you will see a flash. Now plug the computer back in the power outlet then restart the computer this sets your computer back to default settings and loads devices again. Often times this can resolve problems more than likely with beeping it will be a hardware issue. I hope that this shed some light on the issue for you, thanks for using FixYa! John

CANNOT START THE CORRECT HARD DISK WAS NOT FOUND

To solve this problem follow these steps :

Step 1. Turn your PS3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later, then beep once more and turn off into standby again. Release the power button.

Step 3. Press and hold the power button again. It will beep when you first press it, then 5 seconds later beep again and then there will be 2 quick beeps together. Release the power button when you hear these 2 beeps.

Step 4. The PS3 will start up asking you to connect your controller via USB and press the PS button. Do this and then continue to the next step.

Step 5. The recovery menu will load. Select 3 "Restore File System". This will rewrite the hard drive system and hopefully get your PS3 working again. You shouldn't lose any save game data but that is not guaranteed. Ignore any messages about the hard drive being corrupt.

If the above method does not work try steps 1-4 again but select option 4 from the recovery menu. If that doesn't work as a last resort select option 5. Selecting this option WILL erase your data!

I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

Corrupt hardhrive msg comes up and can not do anything

Follow these steps to try and bring your hard drive back to life :-

Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it, then beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and turn off. When the console turns off please let go of the power button.

Step 3. Press and hold the power button again. It will beep when you first press it, then beep 5 seconds later, then there will be 2 quick beeps together. When you hear these 2 quick beeps let go of the power button.

Step 4. The PS3 will start up asking you to connect a PS3 connector via USB and press the PS button. Do this and then go onto the next step.

Step 5. A menu will then load. Choose option 3 "Restore File System". The PS3 will restart and may report that your hard drive is corrupt, ignore this and click on "OK" to continue. Let the PS3 do its thing and hopefully when it restarts all will be well again.

If this procedure does not work, follow steps 1-4 again but on step 5 choose option 4. If this does not work try again but with option 5.

If none of these procedures work then I am afraid it looks like your hard drive may have become faulty. This will mean you will have to purchase a new one.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa
