Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Nikon Transfer.

SOURCE: loading photos to computer: error message says device is busy or not connected

I wish I could tell you what I did. ALl I did was unplug the cable several times from the computer and the camera. I used a duster to blow out any dust particles in the connection areas. I turned the computer and the camera on and off several times. It finally worked.

SOURCE: Trouble downloading pics from my Coolpix L100

Are your batteries fully charged? Direct Camera to PC transfer uses a lot of power. Some early L100s could not use rechargable batteries - unless you downloaded new firmware fron Nikon. That needs a card-reader. Once you have a card-reader, use this to download the pics, so that the PC supplies all the power.

TRANSFERRING PHOTOS TO COMPUTER
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then removethe memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader.Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of yourworking computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device oran external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card andcopy the photos to your computer.Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. Youcan copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off yourmemory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing anyprograms.

No but a good idea is to copy the photos to optical disc with a known good PC then reformat the card on your Panasonic Camera, some times SD cards get confused with the formatting.
