Problem finding tracks

I have HP 48X 80min cd-r's burned on an external Sony drive. Some of the cd's work ok, some have problem finding tracks. Once a track is found, the cd plays perfect. Sometimes the unit never finds the selected track. I have 2 units, two of the players have some problems finding tracks.

Try bunring a cd at the slowest possible speed and see if it helps. Also I would try a different burning software than what you are using now. (Even if it is iTunes or Media Player and if your already using these try roxio or nero instead).

To Determine CD recording problem: Track1 records and plays back O.K. Upon completing track2, display window flashes continously "Now PMA" (Updating disc contents) NO playback or sound on track 2.

It is possible that until you finalize the disc, the only track that will play is the first one. Unfortunately, once you finalize the disc, you cannot record additional tracks to it. You can verify this by finalizing after recording the second track and seeing if they then both play. If that works, you can safely burn additional discs with confidence that they are burning correctly even if you cannot play each back after burning and must wait until finalization to test full burn.

How do i get the track list form my cd's so it does come up with the track list no tack1, track2 so on... i have on a hard-drive, so i don't have to keep wighting the track list one buy one

Nearly all CD burning/ripping software can use this or another online CD database, like CDDB for example. You have to turn on this functionality.
It will work for most popular CDs, but some rare or obscure artists still will not be found, and you'll have to be writing the track list one by one.

Tracks too short to to create CD from hard drive.

either have to delete the short tracks from playlist to burn...when i get mssg theres usually nothing there (hit new track 2x by accident, just silence) Or if u want what is on the short tracks, have to join it to longer track b4 or after it, making one longer track, and no more 1 sec track...to do: hold playlist edit and delete track button, will ask if want to join two tracks, say yes and its done...When u do this, the track you do this on will b joined to the previous track, it will give u mssg showing which two tracks about to join and what track name will b left...(for example do u want to join track 01 to track 02...resulting track name will b track 02)..can then burn once all short tracks either deleted or joined to larger tracks...

Downloading my music and then burning to a cd

Have you read the section of manual relating to 'Importing CDs' ?

Select a playlist, press 'playlist edit' - press HD/CD - insert CD, close drawer. Once Alesis has scanned disc, press 'track move' - display should read Move CDTrk -> Trknn where 'nn' is the next available track in playlist. Press Cursor Left to place cursor under CDTrk, press Down/No, and display should read Move CD->Playlist. If you now hit Yes it will copy all CD tracks to the active playlist (it'll prompt if the playlist isn#'t empty to make sure you want to add the CD to the tracks already in the playlist).

Once they are copied to the playlist, you can move them around if required, DSP them, then burn that playlist to a blank CD
