have you looked in the freezer for ice or frost? there will be alot of heat from the condensor it sounds to me like the unit is not going in to defrost to thaw the evaparator that is located in the freezer behind the evaporator vent cover to check this you will have to feel or look for ice behind this pannel. if so manualy defrost this unit. there is a temp sensor that could be the cause but to test this sensor that is cliped to the aluminum line it has to be froze and test closed there are also 1-2 heaters in the freezer that have to oam. please give me model for more info

Dirty coils will affect operation. The condenser is hot when operating and as long as the fan is operational you should be fine if dirty coils were the problem.

If the condensor coils and compressor motor seem too hot, make sure that the compressor fan is turning. This is what removes heat from the coils by pulling room air across the coils.

The fan is usually at the back of the refrigerator down low. If it's not turning, you will need to replace the fan motor.

My new refrigerator's compressors sometimes run an hour and a half. Is this normal?

If the door has remained closed, that is excessive. On a closed door, I would have thought 10 to 15 minutes.

Fridge runs all the time

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Since you did not provide a model number... this will be a generic / not unit specific answer.

Running all of the time can be caused by several things. Two of the most common reasons is either the condensor fan area in the lower back of the unit has a problem. (lint, fan not running) or the evaporator fan in the freezer is not running. (Fan, ice build up on coils stopping fan)

If the unit is not defrosting properly the evaporator coils freeze up and air can not pass through the coil area. This results in the freezer beening cold and the fresh food compartment to slowly warm up.

Open the doors of your unit and touch the facing area where the door gasket seals. I should be warm to the touch but should NOT be very warm to almost hot. If it is very warm / hot to the touch it will confirm my comments above.

UNPLUG the unit
Clean the condensor area in the bottom of the unit. Use a crevice tool and something NOT sharp, NOT metal and NOT pointed to clean the coils. Old paint brush, big cable tie etc. Make sure the condensor fan is running after you plug the unit back in. A note on powering up any refrigerator.... anytime power is remove you must wait 15 - 20 minutes for the coolant system to stabilze or the compressor will not start.

If you note ice build up in the freezer compartment do a manual defrost by unplugging the unit, placing a fan directed at the freezer compartment (less freezer contents) for just over 2 hours. It makes a water mess so be ready to tend to drips and puddles. After 2 hours and clean up.. return the unit to normal service.

After doing the above the unit should operate normally for at least 2 days. If it continues to operate normally great. If after a few days it starts acting up again suspect that the automatic defrosting function is not working properly and have the defrost system checked.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,,

Hello, we have a whirlpool side by side (estate...between the doors is very hot the compressor is so hot you'd have to have pot holders to remove it. the fan is running fine the fridge and freezer are both...

Check the condensor coils and clean them. The condensor fan may be running slower than normal. It is working hard to move the heat. The area between the doors has a line there purposely to keep it warm so moisture that condenses there when the doors are opened evaporates and doesn't cause mold.

The outer jam of the freezer part of the refrigerator gets hot super hot why ?

you have the power adjust, summer controls, whatever its called for your model, and manufacture
but its normal, this is the YODA LOOP
or the MULLIAN htr.....
it is very normal for it to be hot to the touch, this is actually the heat that is being withdrawn from your box, in the older models, unless the paint is flaking i would not be overly concerned

Not cooling enough per the display

I have this same model which I think I bought in 1988. My frig was overheating also and the compressor was extremely hot. I too cleaned the condensor coils again and have been cleaning them at least annually for a decade and a half by putting an adapter on my small vacuum cleaner. This time I took my 6 hp shop vac and a long bottle brush and scrubbed the coils clean running the brush over the coils many times and using a trouble light to help identify where all the accummulated dust was. Frig is working perfect again. Exhaust temperature is substantially reduced. Hope this helps.

Freezer works Refrigerator will not cool down

The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

Refrigerator does not cool

If the refrigerator cooling is poor, it may be a problem with the thermostat, the compressor, or the evaporator fan. If ice is accumulating at the back of the fridge, that can also be a reason for poor cooling.
