Nikon D50, error w/CHR. Help

I put a SC disc in - 1GB, 4GB. But the camera will not work - I get a CHR error. Is there a setting I need to change on the Nikon D50 camera

My D50 Nikon camera reads CHR I bought a new SD Card it is 4G can that to big

The D50 works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it will only work with devices specifically designed to accept SDHC cards. The D50 wasn't. It only works with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

My Nikon D50 wont accept a SDHC 4GB card

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

You don't really need that big a card. If you want more space (going on holiday?) just carry a couple of spare 1GB cards, and change them when they get full, like people used to put in a new film.

D50 gets CHR blinking and will not take a picture. Have tried another chip but it is still CHR.

Hello

Thank you for using FixYa for your problem

Always check the batteries first but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty.
It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

D50 cannot use a 4gb card??? I use 1gb, 2 gb and no issues, now bought a 4gb card and get a CHA indicator on camera and will not shoot pictures. Can this camera be programed to accept a 4gb or larger...

No, the D50 will not (as you've discovered) accept an SDHC memory card (anything bigger than 2gb is SDHC). I haven't found a firmware upgrade for the D50 to rectify this issue, either. I own a D50 also, and love it, but bigger cards would be nice.

FE E (flashing) r12 Error

Hey redfoxbrenda,
The error message you are getting means the aperture ring is not locked to the smallest aperture setting, and by this I don't mean set to the smallest aperture the lens must have the ability to be locked to the smallest aperture. It is unlikely that the problem is in the camera body. Some older lenses are just not fully compatible with the newer camera bodies, but if this is the case you should still be able to use the lens in manual and aperture priority mode but with limited capabilities. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan
